(CNN) The neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot Trayvon Martin could remain behind bars until the middle of next week due to concerns about collecting enough funds for his $150,000 bond, his lawyer said Saturday.
Attorney Mark OMara visited his client George Zimmerman in the John E. Polk Correctional Facility in Sanford, Florida on Saturday, a day after Seminole County Judge Kenneth R. Lester Jr. set the bond. Prosecutors had asked that Zimmerman remain in jail without bond until trial or that it be set at $1 million.
With the 10% cash payment customarily made to secure bond, Zimmerman could be freed with $15,000 from his family, attorneys said.
Speaking to reporters Saturday outside the jail, OMara said his client is focused on getting out while still aware this is a long, long process.
This is the first few steps, the lawyer said. And hes still very worried about the fact that hes facing a life sentence on a 2nd-degree murder charge.

This was the most disingenuous, insulting thing Ive ever seen, said Martin family attorney Natalie Jackson
Gotta say the Martin camp DISGUSTS ME! They have zero class, but to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't expect them to.
If the Martin family had written the words George said themselves they would have said they didn’t like his tone of voice. There is nothing he could have said that would have made them happy. This should have been expected.
I’d like to know if Zimmerman still has access to his Paypal account. I donated once but I can scrape up a few more bucks.
Meanwhile we have all known cases of accused of far worse crimes being out on bail within 24 hours of the arrest.
If his safety is being taken seriously and his release is handled correctly, we (and the press) won’t know when he is released or where he is released to.
He may be out already.
Well that’s my take.....if Zimmerman would have been a cop Martin never would have jumped him and beat his head on the ground. But apparently he thought it was OK to do it to a regular guy.
Had Martin done this to a cop his killing would have been more than justified, but since it was “Only a Civilian” beating his head on to the ground was not enough justification to kill him. Had he jumped me and I had enough time to pull my gun I would have killed this SOB as well, and race has nothing to do with it. Well he won’t do it again and so much better for the gene pool. Sooner or later this “Choir boy” would have ended in jail anyway.
The Zimmerman's still have to put up $150,000 in Collateral (house equity, cars, retirement funds, accounts, etc.) so the Bail Bondsman will have recourse to cover the loss if Zimmerman doesn't show up for trial.
Is the whole $15,000 a non-refundable cash payment to the bond agency?
NBC and other Media outlets will pay the Zimmerman’s expenses
Yes.
Not true. Z family puts up 15000. The rest is insured through a surety bond.
Unless Zim skips - then its time to hire Dog the Bounty hunter or the bondsman loses the whole hundred fifty grand.
I don't know about Florida but some states don't even have bail bondsmen, we don't here in Illinois, you just put up 10% of the bond yourself.
We have that in Indiana too, it's called a "cash bond" but it is generally ordered only in minor misdemeanor cases. All major felonies require a surety bond.
Right, the bond agency gets it, and exchange for that takes on the liability of you not showing up.
