.Gov. Brian Schweitzer, talking Friday to a national news website, said Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney might shy from talking about his familys Mexican roots because they came from a polygamy commune in Mexico.
Schweitzer made the remark in an interview with The Daily Beast, a news and opinion website, after being asked whether Montana might be a swing state during this years 2012 election.
According to The Daily Beast, Schweitzer said Montana likely would vote for Romney, but that Romney, a Mormon, might have trouble nationally because his father, George Romney, was born on a polygamy commune in Mexico.
Schweitzer, a Democrat, said later that he wasnt misquoted, and that his comments had nothing to do with Romneys faith or his church, which does not condone polygamy.
Schweitzer said he was describing the dilemma facing Romney, who is in trouble with Hispanic voters because he took an ultra-right-wing position on immigration during the (Republican) primary.

Obama’s Grand Daddy murdered British troops when he was playing a commie insurgent in Kenya.
Does Obama and his surrogates want to open that can of worms for this weeks headlines? The dog issue didn’t turn out so well for them.
Polygamy? More sex in the house. You think liberals would love that.
Romney wanted amnesty in December. lol.
was his father from a polygamous community or not??
Romney’s family was not polygamist.
Let’s stick with facts please.
That’s my understanding as well.
Romney = Eight more years of Øbamanomics.
Williard is unlikely to kick The Goldman Sack out of the Fed Gov’t.
Agreed. The problem is not so much the Mexican chicken ranch as the Massachusetts abortion ‘clinics’.
It’s a bit awkward to defend Romney on this board.
However I’m starting to sense from various postings - originating from Mr. Thompson and various Mods, that honest information which (can) be construed as beneficial to Romney, without being deliberately boosting him - seems to fly under the “zot” radar.
It’s ok it seems to pick a lane, between the marxist extremist Obama, and the mushy socialist Romney. Even defend that selection, energetically.
But not to pick the Romney lane, against anyone else but Obama.
Seems workable. :D
JR or Mods, feel free to refute that interpretation, definitely trying to intuit how to avoid going too far, without ending up de-facto supporting Obama - which simply is not an option. Ever.
Thanks.
It was his great grandfather and before that were still practicing polygamy, I don't think that Mitt can do it until he becomes a GOD.
Both Romney's were, and in Mitt's case, are, powerful leaders in this cult, this kind of thing matters because while law forces the cult to put on a face, it doesn't change it.
Bishop Romney and his Bishop father and why the family left the United States to move to Mexico, is tied in with the question of how, or why no Romney man has ever served the United States as a military man, that is about 180 years of unbroken cult devotion that needs to be looked at.
Doesn’t Montana have a high mormon population? Irks me as to why politically Schweitzer would make such a stupid statement.
Honestly I’d prefer a Mormon bishop, to a bitter anti-American communist.
If that’s our choice, it’s pretty dog-gone simple.
Is it really that complicated to you?
Schweitzer is a 'rat of the first order doing the bidding of his Muslim Master.
“Bishop Romney and his Bishop father and why the family left the United States to move to Mexico, is tied in with the question of how, or why no Romney man has ever served the United States as a military man, that is about 180 years of unbroken cult devotion that needs to be looked at.”
It is also almost impossible to have a family with such old roots in America, with -zero- (apparently) military connections. Even Obama had a grandfather who served, well or ill. There is no family I know who does not have -some- relation who served in the military at some point. It is contemptible that this mendacious fringe wierdo is pushed as the GOP standard bearer.
What do you mean by that? The Romneys went to Mexico to keep practicing polygamy, it was a Mormon polygamy compound that Mitt's father was born on, the Romneys are still Mormon royalty and power, they just quit practicing polygamy and came back to America where they have run two straight generational attempts to take the Presidency of our nation.
Romney is several generations separated from polygamy. Obama is only one.
Do the Dems really want the door opened to examining Bammy's past? I think not.
You want Romney to be president and head of the GOP, that is perfectly clear.
Are you sure?
Or did the expat, faithful GROUP together flee persecution?
If Romney’s ancestors were not polygamist, please don’t accuse him (or smear him) as such.
Thanks. Let’s be more honorable than Alinsky liberals please.
Baloney.
I want Sarah Palin to be President and leader of the GOP.
What’s your story?
I think the question is not a genetic taint of polygamy from ancestors, but about the Romney’s being leaders in the racist polygamy cult, uninterruptedly, for it’s entire history and the fact that Mitt is a Bishop in it.
