People in politics talk about the right track/wrong track numbers as an indicator of public mood. This week Gallup had a poll showing only 24% of Americans feel we're on the right track as a nation. That's a historic low. Political professionals tend, understandably, to think it's all about the economyunemployment, foreclosures, we're going in the wrong direction. I've long thought that public dissatisfaction is about more than the economy, that it's also about our culture, or rather the flat, brute, highly sexualized thing we call our culture...

Well there is a “cure” for it, that is, America MUST return to its Jewish/Christian spiritual heritage.
Honesty, thrift, hard-work, stable families, and morality are all Conservative Social Values.
If you want people to behave better, if you want society to be more civil, if you want the next generation to be above the level of animals, then you want to promote Social Conservatism.
If you want a strong economy, if you want people with sound educations, good work ethic, and an entrepreneurial spirit, then you want to promote Social Conservatism.
Jobs? The Economy? Freedom? Morality? You can solve any problem you want if you bring back Social Conservatism. But a lot of people, even on this site, want to put Social Conservatism on a back burner and emphasize something else because that "something else" seems to offer more immediate value. Well ... instant gratification is not a Socially Conservative value.
My reply at #3 attempted to avoid an explicit religious explanation, but Yes ... what you said is really what I was trying to say. The Nation needs to turn to God.
I’m so glad that Noonan is lecturing us on character and principles. Yawn..... She needs to waddle back to Manhattan and drink a few more martinis with her buddies and cluck about how righteous and smarter they are than the rest of the people in flyover country.
Peggys’s a first class hypocrite...she unabashedly jumped on the Obama bandwagon in 2008 and attacked Sarah Palin. Now she’s lecturing us about ‘character?’ Give me a break!
Peggy Noonan lost me a few years back. I can’t even remember what it was now, but at one point I read one of her books, and then...what was it? I don’t even think it was that she was kissing up to Obama, I think it was before that, but I cannot remember.
Whatever it was, it made me discount her as completely meaningless. Not to say this content is. It is kind of like getting food poisoning. If you eat a bad eclair, you will have an aversion to them the rest of your life, even if you don’t remember why.
Hmmm. Seems like I have been off longer than that, but maybe that is it.
Political correctness from the press is almost a non factor compared to how it is imposed from the schools, corporations, community meetings, etc. Strong, independent thought is not tolerated in our society anymore. About the only people that can get away with independent thought in America are small, private business owners.. Why do you think the lefties want to destroy small business?
Noonan threw Election 2008 to Obama for Romney
by attacking Gov. Palin and her children.
Ms. Noonan is an Obama supporter.
She is responsible for the destruction of America, herself.
Thank-you for making my early morning!
People can make mistakes, regret them, and make corrections.
And it is starting to backfire on the lefties.
Awful: Peggy Noonan, Mike Murphy caught on open mike about Palin
Peggy Noonan Notices that Barack Obama is Kind of a Lousy, Divisive Little President
Thanks for the links.
Those things were likely it.
Hysterical!
No, what Peggy did in 2008 was reprehensible and she got called for it, both here and elsewhere in the Conservative blogosphere. Since then she has developed a severe case of buyer’s remorse and is trying to tack right again, but we have all of her 2008-2009 Obama loving columns and TV appearances on file and won’t let her forget the damage she helped inflict.
What she did was very, very wrong, but also she is a reflection of a lot of folks who are going thrugh what is called “buyers remorse”, just to correct you.
Two thoughts:
One—fish (like society) rot from the head on down.
Two—Immigration is gradually importing a brand-new electorate (very old in reality) with a more ‘diverse’ set of standards and culture.
