“But homeschooling is that solution. For that matter, it’s the ONLY true alternative to group education”

It’s more of a rejection than a solution...still...it’s not the only solution. You are implying that all group education is somehow bad…which simply is not true. Homeschooling is your prerogative but don’t be arrogant and assume that it is somehow superior to all other forms of education. Another solution is to do what I did and choose to fight for the hearts and minds of our kids and change the culture of the schools. I’m in the trenches every day doing my part and taking action.

“What this person did is inexcusable by any stretch of the rational imagination. In your frenzied attempts to justify public schooling and this teacher, you have obviously lost sight of that”

Your assertion is inaccurate. I haven’t justified anything. Don’t start down the logical fallacy path your friend did. I’ve stated over a dozen times that what this guy did was wrong. I just don’t think it warrants 12 felony charges and 60 years in prison. I don’t think people are looking at the case rationally. To me, people ranting and raving and gnashing their teeth about this guy in their posts reeks of mob mentality and street justice. I find that offensive and dangerous because it’s that very mentality which the left uses to strip our liberties and damage our education, justice system and government; all the things you complain about.

Zero tolerance laws are a good example of how mob mentality allowed law makers to justify stripping people of their individuality and over-criminalize everything. The next time some kid gets arrested for bringing a butter knife to school for their bagel…I’ll send them to you to convict them in the court of street justice and mobocracy.

Actually you defended it as some kind of lesson about life.

The kids in question here didn’t know that it was fake and harmless so it scared the crap out of them and gave them a new perspective on life...which is likely the reaction the teacher was looking for in the first place. Isn’t that the whole reason for such programs as ‘Scared Straight’? ... I can certainly empathize with why he did what he did.

Using psyops to frighten people into behaving the way you want them to is a time-honored statist method of mind control. What kind of sick control freak would think that's acceptable?

Talk about a complete non-sequitur to the story. (more homework for you)

I agree with what Frenetic has posted, here.

However, somewhere along the way, it became a pissing match. I believe Frenetic brought some (most) of it on himself by miminizing the seriousness of the actual event, of which I quoted, when I posted #142: "Keep in mind that the weapon was a fake. Nobody was injured."

That was an assinine comment.

I agree that this crime is not 12-felony, 60-year serious. But this is a serious crime and is definitely a one-felony, 10-year crime.

In short, I'm not sure Frenetic is a troll (although I withhold a conclusion here, and will observe him), but that he messed up.

I also have a hard time believing he is a teacher. Well, a good one, anyways.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Homeschooling is the superior way to rear and educate a child to adulthood. Lucky, indeed, are the children whose parents are capable enough and willing to do it.

Should **all** children be homeschooled. No, of course not!

Some parents are too lazy, too ill educated themselves, too sick, too stupid, too unorganized, too overwhelmed, too materialistic, too poor, etc. These children will need to be institutionalized for their schooling. We need orphanages, too, but no one is claiming it is the best way to bring up and educate a child.
