Following rocker Ted Nugent's recent comments about President Barack Obama, he has been dropped from a scheduled performance at Fort Knox, the post announced Thursday afternoon.
Nugent set off a controversy at last weekend's National Rifle Association convention when he criticized high-ranking members of Obama's administration and offered support for possible Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
In a video posted on YouTube by the NRA, Nugent said, "If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year. If you can't go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil America hated administration, I don't even know what you're made out of."
He also suggested members of the Obama administration, including the vice president, attorney general and secretary of state were "criminals."
Army Entertainment and the Fort Knox Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation are committed to carrying out the concert, according to a news release. REO Speedwagon and Styx remain scheduled to perform as part of the post's annual summer concert June 23. The possibility exists that a replacement will be selected, post officials said.
“Hi Infidelity By REO is a Mutli-Platinum Album Same for Styx Paradise Theater. Critics May not like them But Millions of People bought those albums.”
Then it can be said (IMO) that millions of people had bad taste but not as bad or as many who do today.
More to the point, aren't they supposed to defend our nation and the US Constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic? and doesn't this include the civilian Ted Nugent's first amendment right to freedom of speech?
This military is no longer your father's military I'm telling you what.
Ft Knox MWR has a Facebook page and it looks like there’s already a discussion going on about it. If you feel like putting a word in for truth it’s at https://www.facebook.com/#!/knoxmwr
If the Dixie Chicks want to know what censorship looks like. This is it.
Well its Closer than what happened to the Dixie Chicks but its still not a First Amendment Issue.
Ted does not have a "Right" to play a concert anywhere even Fort Knox. The People who hire him to play Concerts can change there mind and decide they don't want him, whether there is pay involved or not.
the people hiring him is the federal government.
Any truth to the rumor that he has been replaced by the Indigo Girls?
I don't think either applies. I think Uncle Teddy is just one of the millions that feel that we must get rid of Obama at all costs and if that cost is Mitt Romney so be it. I don't subscribe to that idea but I can understand why people would.
Yeah and....
Believe it or not the FedGov is allowed to change its mind too.
Doesn't change a thing. Ted Nugent does not have a "RIGHT" to play a concert for the FedGov.
Nor does anyone else. However Ted Nugent does have a "RIGHT" to speak freely about how fricking stupid our Government is for NOT letting him play at the concert.
The First Amendment is very precise. Don't try and expand its meaning just because you are mad at Obama.
Commander and Chief can’t have Uncle Ted telling his troops how much he sucks.
This came from the top!
I would guess there are figures to show one way or the other what the makeup actually is, but just being black or Hispanic in the military would not automatically determine support for Obama.
Just look at someone like LT Col Allan West retired, for example.
Having said all that it is a historical fact that the vast majority of military vote Republican. This is more than just opinion but I believe factual. Democrats would rather not include the votes of the military,Time and time again they have fought to not allow the military to vote
Couldn't be much... I don't think they did much sleeping during the night in question.
But, they evict Ted Nugent....That means not going to the concert would be appropriate.
“Ted will move on and it will not bother or affect him.”
That’s what I think, too.
Of course he is, who's left?
Your guy?
You know how well that worked out don't you?
This is very appropriate, and so funny, too!
I don’t think Nugent said anything I haven’t heard a lot of other people say.
That said, I’m really disappointed that Ted has chosen to serve as one of Willard’s stooges.
