Monday night on Sean Hannity’s “Great American Panel” I had a little tete-a-tete with Fox News contributor and notorious liberal wit Bob Beckel. Our exchange created a bit of a sensation because at one point during it Bob dropped the f-bomb — on air. But my issue with liberals like Bob isn’t their use of foul language; it’s their imperviousness to facts.
The exchange began during a commercial break. When Bob pulled out the “class card,” accusing me of being “well to do” (I say “accusing” because to many liberals, economic success is something to be ashamed of), I told him to stick to the issues and to name one of President Obama’s spending programs that actually benefits Americans. “Head Start” was his reply.
Head Start is an early childhood development program aimed at low-income children. It, too, is an example of a failed government program.
I told Bob about a Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) report released in January 2010 called the “Head Start Impact Study.” While the report acknowledges that four-year-olds enrolled in Head Start showed modest short-term gains in some subject areas as a result of the program, those gains disappeared after a few years, and “no significant impacts were found for math skills, pre-writing, children’s promotion, or teacher report of children’s school accomplishments or abilities in any year.”
In fact, according to University of Maryland professors Douglas Besharov and Douglas Call, children who are enrolled in normal day care programs receive the same educational benefits as children enrolled in Head Start, and for less than half the cost ($9,500 a year per child vs. $22,600 a year per child).

My understanding of Yakima Valley Head Start was mostly for the migrate children.
As for bob beckel — he is the epitome of the democrat party.
They could enroll the child at a top notch pre-k for 22k, liberals are stupid. All though I believe they do all of this to enlarge their base (unions).

And furthermore, what do kids in regular kindergarten (and preschool, for that matter) learn that is so essential to know at that age and stage of life that would justify the hefty cost to taxpayers?
The alphabet? How to count? How to read simple words?
The topics that are introduced via early childhood education programs over a period of years can be mastered in a few days by a child of 7 or 8.

I would say Bob Beckel is a half wit at best.
Beckel is also a loser. When he was running Dem campaigns they didn’t just lose... they got shellacked. With the Democrat party’s ascendency he must feel like a losing football coach attending the Superbowl as somebody’s guest.
Head Start is free daycare, plain and simple.
I have taken a toddler from a poor broken home who was 2 and had never seen a book. I babysat her for free. She loved the little board books I got her and sat one on one and read to her. That’s what these kids need — QUANTITY TIME with a loved one.
My little sweetie memorized the books and then got the connection between the words and started learning to read. She was smart, even though there was a good chance she had fetal alcohol syndrome. She was alone with an abusive dad and finally after about 4 years got taken away, thank goodness. We all reported him but nothing happened for a long time. Hope she turned out ok.
Probably not the fault of Head Start. It is more likely the grinding negativity of the public school system. It’s little more than a warehouse in the ‘poorer’ school districts.
When I read that “Head Start” was started under Good Ole’ Lyndon Baines Johnson and was part of the then “Great Society” “suite” of programs that alone to me was more than enough to indicate the uselessness of the program.
You know what galls me the most is that we have now had these anti-poverty programs for close to 50 years now .... and we still have poverty! Doesn’t that mean they’re “Not Working? and maybe they should either be modified or discontinued? or Perhaps a new approach is in order?

When the facts don’t support the idea, liberals just scream “F U” since that is all they have.
What could POSSIBLY be taught to a pre-schooler that costs $22,000 a year ???? My kids aren't spending anywhere near that on college tuition!
I simply cannot stand Bob Beckel and refuse to watch any show that he is on.
Note the complete lack of respect for her as a lady that Beckel displayed by throwing the F-bomb at her.
Where I come from, those fighting words are only used, if ever, for man vs. man.
Just as a man must never hit a woman.
He’s supposedly in the pro-woman, anti-bullying party, but Beckel proved what a sissy bully he is...attacking a woman that way.
Hannity should have suspended him from the program.
I still wonder why Hannity bothers to have the likes of Beckel and that clueless Tamera Holder on that is a lawyer but yet she always takes the liberal view and seems to have no common sense. To a lesser extent the other liberal woman but on 10% of the time will side with conservatives sort of like Juan Williams.
Absolute dittos. I would like to see him in person, though, so I can knock him on his fat ass.
