Blue Dog Democrats face extinction in next election

Just when the Blue Dogs thought it couldn’t get any worse, it did.

Two years after the 2010 midterm elections decimated their ranks, the coalition of conservative Democrats is poised to get pummeled again in November — moving the Blue Dogs dangerously close to extinction.

Of the 24 remaining Blue Dogs, five are not seeking reelection. More than a half-dozen others are facing treacherous contests in which their reelection hopes are in jeopardy.

It’s a rough time to occupy the right wing of the Democratic Party.

“It’s a tough environment out there,” said former Alabama Rep. Bud Cramer, a longtime member of the House Blue Dog Coalition. “Their numbers are down. Redistricting has not been kind to them.”

Blue Dog democrats are like Bigfoot. Every couple of years around an election, a couple of grainy, out of focus photos of them show up campaigning about fiscal discipline but after the election we find out it was just a lib in a conservative suit. There is no such species really.

The Democrat Party is becoming increasingly rigid and liberal/radical in their policies and ideology. There is no room in the Democrat Party anymore for more moderate Democrats.

The Dems view Blue Dogs like we view RINOs. We need to be more effective in causing the extinction of the RINOs.

I think voters have sent a message too. Voters in these more conservative districts, even if they like their Blue Dog Democrat congressman, realize that a vote for him/her is a vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, and a vote for the whole slew of liberal/radical Democrat policies in Congress. So voters are wising up and abandoning their Blue Dog Democrats.

I’ve noticed this watching the local/state primary commercials for Democrats running in my area. This includes Jason Altmire, who is mentioned in the article.

They all seem to emphasize that they are strongly “pro-choice” and that they oppose the Tea Party.

Seems counter to what was happening just a few years ago, when they had to run from being tagged as a “Nancy Pelosi” type dem.

John Barrow D-GA is as close to a Blue Dog democrat as you will see in the South. The Republicans try each legislative session to re-district him out of the House and the Democrat establishment runs a more liberal candidate against him in the primary. All Barrow does is win, showing the power of incumbency.

There is no such thing as a conservative democrat. You may personally be conservative, but the party will not remotely let you vote your conscious on any significant matter, and the electorate has figured this out.

The Southern, Conservative Democrat is dead, you cannot be conservative and a democrat. Its an impossible task, your party is the party of communism, and if you go to washington you will support the party line whether you like it or not.

We can say the same about Romney.

Altmire’s a hack, but since I couldn’t even name you who hes running against without googling it, I’d say he’s probably safe for re-election.

Yep....that is why I had to vote against Zell Miller, even though I thought a lot of him personally.

Indeed. John Barrow is the worst. I keep hoping we’ll send him packing one day.

He’s battling with Critz for the primary nod (since they merged the two districts), and will probably be facing Keith Rothfus in the general.

Ain't that the truth?

But isn't it absolutely delicious seeing Critz and Altmier run dueling ads as to who is the more Democrat of the two?

One week from now, one of these little turd birds will be voted out of office.

By November, there is a decent chance the other one will also be gone. All their GOP opponent has to do is replay the ads from their own primary squabble.

You are probably aware that both of them ran against ObamaCare . . . and both of them voted against repeal once they were in office.

Mark Critz is former chief of staff for that crook John Murtha.

McIntyre from my neck of the woods is listed as a Blue Dog.

The only reason he’s a Blue Dog is because he calls himself one. Other than military related votes he’s a solid lib.
