When racial tensions flared in Sanford, a league of secretive peacemakers reached out to the city's spiritual and civic leaders to help cool heated emotions after 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in February.
When civil-rights organizers wanted to demonstrate, these federal workers taught them how to peacefully manage crowds.
They even arranged a police escort for college students to ensure safe passage for their 40-mile march from Daytona Beach to Sanford to demand justice.
As national figures and sign-waving protesters grabbed the spotlight after Trayvon's death, federal workers from a little-known branch of the Department of Justice labored away behind the scenes, quietly brokering deals between the city officials and residents to help prevent violence and lay the groundwork for peace.
Even though last week's arrest of suspected shooter George Zimmerman calmed some tensions, the Community Relations Service will remain in Sanford for an unspecified period of time. "As long as we're needed," the agency's acting director said.
The Community Relations Service offers few details about its work.
City officials, local leaders and residents say these peacekeepers have played a key role in easing tensions during some of the most heated moments after Trayvon's shooting.
"They were there for us," said the Rev. Valarie Houston, pastor of Allen Chapel AME Church, a focal point for the community after the unarmed teen's death. She met the peacekeepers there for the first time during a March 20 town-hall meeting. "We felt protected," she said.
Houston said the conciliators told her they act as the "eyes and ears of the community" and provided guidance about keeping their message about nonviolence clear.
At every rally, community meeting and march, since the shooting, conciliators were there.
In their Navy blue windbreakers, polo shirts and dark sunglasses, they look like federal agents.

...and why does this feel like a Harlem Globetrotters game?<<<
Hehe.
Taxpayers are the Washington Generals.
If they are so great...why not send them to Chicago?
Oh, gag me, just gag me with a spoon!
Now that’s scary.
I think the game is to indeed create a crisis of paranoia and racial division, so that the paranoiac in power can feel happy others are suffering like he does.
As a result of this paranoia induced in the population, the population is made into his image and into his need for control mechanisms, or so Holder’s DOJ hopes to obtain.
The same was done with Fast and Furious.
Once the paranoia is on, tada! here comes the lords and the cavalry, because people suffer in a state of uncertainty and doubt and start getting themselves diseased with paranoia and fear. This means they want in the end “peace”, ie. to be told what to do and how to do it, even if it means their lives and deaths are predetermined. Some even use that and manipulate the system to be paid to go to prison.
There is a constitutional question in the interference and the subprograms of “peace” coming from the DOJ which go beyond any “warrant” or scrutiny from a judge or legislators/courts.
The reason for this is because liberals are paranoiacs and natural backstabbers. As a result of the chaos in their head, they have given up on caring or maintaining a healthy pack, and, thus, they are looking for a leader to do the talking to them, because, if there is none to send them to the controled Gulag by installments that Obamacare is, they go crazy.
The reactions of crazies like Loughner or Trayvis are the examples of a liberal ashamed to be such dependent and yet incapable at the time of depending.
This is why they always are viewed as victims, ie. as poor animals who would if only we paid them taxes to watch TV in some sort of prison, without any responsabilities or worries.
Bet the DOJ had something to do with getting the protestors in to shut down the Sanford police station.
This sounds like the DOJ swooped in to help coordinate the race hustling.
And they're on a mission from God. :-)
LOL....But with a tan.
Yep, drama and potemkin crisis. Of tragedies and farces...
They are paranoiac and weak, and they all do this to get government gulag care. Now I know what that preacher meant when he would go to big gangsters and he would have them cry all of a sudden when shown the Bible.
Indeed, liberals want to encourage them to live a controled life, but liberals will not fork the money and make no sense. Ultimately they will throw their arms up in the air and demand the US military eliminate them, Sanger genomic genocide style or something like that.
Any federal bunch like this is like a fireplace poker in your home...harmless and even useful in normal times, but let somebody with ill intentions get hold of it and all of a sudden it is a menacing thing.
Under Holder, I’m thinking these guys are little more than referees sent in to make sure the “right” side gets what they want, and that’s a best case scenario.
From the article: “Community Relations Service director Becky Monroe”
Google that. Lots of NWO stuff in there...
Looks like a rehearsal for future dictatorship making programs... Balkanization of the US?
Recalcitrants will be deemed to be antigovernment nuts, just like when they confiscated during Hurricane Katrina.
This is the anticonservative neighborhood watch crowd. Watch for a conservative who wants to rid us of the happy “sesame street” street life in Amerikkka.
Yep, kind of like in North Korea: if you do not smile at the cop, he will kill you.
Where is the constitutional authority for this?
From a companion article at the link, there’s this.
“Community Relations Service, the neutral mediators of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, descend into communities where the residents perceive discrimination based on their race, color or national origin.
They mobilize from 10 regional and four field offices around the country to offer conflict-resolution services.”
There are three other instances listed, all racially charged.
I have a feeling the government would rather not have this become widely known.
But the issue is a bit more important than that.
...from a little-known branch of the Department of Justice labored away behind the scenes, quietly brokering deals...
Whoa!!! Whisky-Tango-Foxtrot.
And what little radish patch did these people hatch from? Is this Holder's private police force? Maybe the start of the Civilian National Defense Force Obama talked about during the campaign.
Seriously, who are these people? Who pays them? I'm betting it's not the FBI or any other national law enforcement group.
Nothing scary about those ideas, right?
