Nearly two months after dropping his bid for the GOP nomination, Herman Cains presidential campaign paid about $19,000 to a pair of nonprofit groups that are reportedly under federal investigation for boosting his White House bid.
The Wisconsin-based groups, Prosperity USA and Wisconsin Prosperity Network, were run by Cains top aides and footed the bill for about $40,000 of goods and services including iPads and chartered flights that helped Cains campaign get going early last year, according to documents obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

It would be illegal for the groups to donate goods or services to a presidential campaign, and Cains campaign last year said it had retained an outside lawyer to look into the matter.
The Journal Sentinel reported last month that the FBI was investigating the groups and their leaders, Mark Block and Linda Hansen, who served as Cains campaign manager and deputy campaign manager, respectively.
A report filed Friday night with the Federal Election Commission shows that Cains presidential campaign committee on Jan. 20 paid $14,779 to Prosperity USA for lodging, transportation and meals and $4,064 to Wisconsin Prosperity Network for office equipment and furniture.

Wisconsin Cain Campaign Investigated for Ties to 2 Wisconsin Non-Profit Organizations ping
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Holder Justice Department decide to investigate anyone who opposed the One.
They’re desperate to knock Cain out before the general election. I wouldn’t tie Cain too closely to the campaign, but he’d be a great thorn in Obama’s side.
Okay, I’m clearly the stupid one here.
How is it ‘donating’ if you paid for something? And how is it illegal to donate something if you don’t try to deduct it on your taxes? What the Sam Hill is going on in our election law anyway???
Is this article saying it is illegal for a campaign to pay a group for lodging if that group is working for your campaign?
They want to knock Cain out of the short list for VP.
The timing says it all.
$19,000? Seriously? What about the MILLIONS in donations the Usurper received from overseas sources in 2008? Crickets.
Cain’s problems were initiated by Romney supporter and Milwaukee WTMJ’s am 620 weekday morning 8:30-noon talk show host Charley Sykes. He began hammering away at Cain and prticularly Block the day before Politico released their hanky-panky stuff and continued on with it until Herman suspended his campaign. I wish to point out at that time Cain was leading in the polls particularly in California.
I also like to point out that one of the main issues fearlessly worked by Santorum; Eugenics, and Obamacare, has dropped from the scene since Santorum announcexd his suspension. Which is why I’m urging conservatives in states having their primary on April 24th to vote for Santorum and his delegates despite his decision to suspend campaign activities .http://www.theusmat.com
Where ever birth control has been tried it’s been a failure. One of those countries besides of Russia who’s having population problems is Japan . Just because we’re waiting for a SCOTUS decision that doesn’t mean it’s decided. They may nix part of it or leave it stand. One reason we’re having problems with Mexico illegals is population replacement.
The whole law has got to be repealed and the idea junked .
I’m not understanding this. Aren’t they PAC’s so that they ARE able to donate?
In the 2008 incorporation papers, Block is listed as the president of Wisconsin Prosperity Network, which was set up as a tax-exempt nonprofit group. That means the charitable organization can't have direct political involvement. Hansen was the group's executive director.
