Seems the study was underwritten by liberals who'd prefer the study conclude that guns intimidate people with a debilitating effect.Scientific American is a left-wing leaning publication.

It could be one of three possibilities in the way the experiment was carried out.

1.They weren't aware the device was a gun. 2. Were aware it was but not whether or not it was loaded 3. They knew it was a loaded weapon makes the most sense it the perception of being taller and stronger.

...four different white males, each holding a different object: A power drill, a handsaw, a caulking gun and a .45 caliber handgun.

No wonder the liberals had a problem with this. There were too many white guys in here, not enough diversity. On top of that, only one - the handsaw guy - had "gone green" by forsaking power tools and reducing his carbon footprint. Worse, the first white guy obviously had a construction job, no-doubt taken away from some poor deserving illegal immigrant. The third guy is obviously a home owner, fixing up his house lest the evil bank run by other white guys reposes it. Finally the fourth guy, horror of horrors, is exercising his inalienable right to life and liberty by protecting himself with a firearm.
