MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Unions are facing a make-or-break moment in their campaign to drive Wisconsin's Republican governor from office.
"After devoting so much effort, energy and funds to the recall, unions have to show positive results or it will be judged to be a sign of a weakened labor movement," said Gary Chaison, professor at Clark University. The recall primary in Wisconsin is May 8, and the general election is June 5.
Such massive, costly campaigns have taken a toll on unions, diverting resources they could have spent helping political allies or organizing new members. "Unions are not bottomless wells when it comes to resources.... "As we're forced to wage these fights to defend what we've got, it's a win-win for the other side because they force us to spend a lot of money to plug holes in the dike."
Unions now face a new hurdle. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett announced last month that he, too, would run in the Democratic primary. Barrett, has clashed with unions in the past and refused to take the unions' veto pledge. Barrett's entry into the race means unions will have to spend even more money to boost Falk's profile. It also puts them in a bind. They are reluctant to publicly attack Barrett for fear of damaging him in the event he wins the primary. They face the prospect of having to spend even more resources in the general election to support a Democrat they don't really trust.

OK, the Primary Election, to determine the Pubbie and Dem candidates in all the Recall Races, is May 8. The General Election, to see if the Pubbies or the Unions win, is June 5th.
The thought came to me this morning: I don’t recall seeing Gov. Walker at any of the GOP Candidate’s Rallies in WI during the GOP Primary there. Probably a smart move. No sense in alienating potential supporters by endorsing someone they don’t like. Paul Ryan and Sen. Johnson, however, went all out for RINO-Rom.
Right on, hopefully these fights will drain the unions dry and the state isn’t acting as their collections agency any more...
Tom Barret is a rat, but Kathleen Falk is a dyed-in-the-wool Marxist rat. Barret may be playing a delicate game of hoping to be far enough left to win the D primary, then move to the center in hopes of knocking Walker out while refusing to categorically say he would consider letting the collective bargaining bill stand.
Barret isn’t stupid or blinded by Madistan-ism like Falk and he knows full well that the budget reform is working and producing results. Falk would repeal it strictly on ideology, but Barret might let it stand and just turn Walker into a scapegoat. Time will tell.
Unions pulling out all the stops. "It's now or never" mentality in union halls. Look for Demwits to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Collectively speaking. Every fraudulent voting method ever employed will be put to use.
Maybe they have a role, but I'd vote to eliminate all unions in this day and age. Even if not completely powerless and defunct, they won't have the influence they've used maliciously in the last years.
Their secret ballot initiatives are nothing but a means to make intimidation easier for them. They don't know whom to threaten if they don't know how their members voted. To hell with them.
This will be a preview of the kind of election fraud tactics they have lined up for November.

I'd settle for outlawing unions of government workers.

The year the first federal union law was passed was the last year black unemployment was lower than white unemployment.

i know those of you here who post obviously are different and i feel for ya'll...I truly do...I have pals from Edina to Iowa City to Holland and Traverse City and know how they feel
what percentage of the white population is Republican...forget conservative for a minute
in 2008 whites in MN and WI voted Obama 53% and 54% respectively
the Dakotas voted the same but for McCain
Michigan voted 51% for Obama, Iowa too and Illinois
Indiana and Ohio voted 51% for Mccain but not enough to offset black vote
it would appear that the midwest and upper midwest whites vote either slightly GOP but it's not enough or they vote slightly Dems
amazing...whites as a rule are just plain different than down here...we are 80% more likely to vote for the party of reconstruction...who woulda ever figured that
and to some degree for the same reason...there is no escaping that notion...whites in the South unless they stick together will be held prisoner by a leftist statist black dominated Democrat party...a party they themselves as social conservatives once owned prior to LBJ
and now the party of Lincoln helps them keep the finger in the dike....we are talking states that are 35-40% black
northerners don't have that pressing political threat which might help explain why they vote like they do but then again not really
I think it comes down to the how the women vote...white southern women and white midwestern and upper midwestern gals are very very different

They are the descendants of the 48ers, failed European revolutionaries of 1848 who fled Europe and settled in those states. Their statist/socialist streak goes all the way back to those initial immigrants.
48ers were enthusiastic supporters of Lincoln, and having already been in one revolution played a significant role in pushing for civil war. A number of 48ers went on to be generals in the Union Army.

I don’t understand the WI process. This schedule shows a general election even if the recall vote itself doesn’t succeed? Are they so sure it’ll succeed that both parties have to line up candidates immediately? OR, if the recall vote fails, is the general election cancelled and Walker remains governor?
If I may paraphrase: “Extremism makes for strange bedfellows” especially when it advances ones agenda. I’ve also noted that some posters demonstrate absolutely deplorable taste in reference sites but, like the man said, “Tis all a matter of taste”.

The article has nothing at all to do with the Holocaust. It is a book review about Marxism and the New Left in the United States and has an apposite quote regarding that subject.

Probably because the reviewer is not going after them. Evidently he has a history with Wisconsin leftists. Konkin says he attended the University of Wisconsin and tried converting the New Leftists there to his brand of libertarianism, appealing to their common isolationism.
