Britain's Christians Are Being Vilified, Warns Lord Carey Christians are being persecuted by courts and driven underground in the same way that homosexuals once were, a former Archbishop of Canterbury has warned.
Lord Carey argues that in 'case after case' British courts have failed to protect Christian values. He urges European judges to correct the balance. By John Bingham 13 Apr 2012
Lord Carey says worshippers are being vilified by the state, treated as bigots and sacked simply for expressing their beliefs. The attack is part of a direct appeal to the European Court of Human Rights before a landmark case on religious freedom.
In a written submission seen by The Daily Telegraph, the former leader of more than 70 million Anglicans warns that the outward expression of traditional conservative Christian values has effectively been banned in Britain under a new secular conformity of belief and conduct.
His comments represent one of the strongest attacks on the impartiality of Britains judiciary from a religious leader. He says Christians will face a religious bar to employment if rulings against wearing crosses and expressing their beliefs are not reversed.
Lord Carey argues that in case after case British courts have failed to protect Christian values. He urges European judges to correct the balance.
The hearing, due to start in Strasbourg on Sept 4, will deal with the case of two workers forced out of their jobs over the wearing of crosses as a visible manifestation of their faith. It will also take in the cases of Gary McFarlane, a counsellor sacked for saying that he may not be comfortable in giving sex therapy to homosexual couples, and a Christian registrar, who wishes not to conduct civil partnership ceremonies.

Easier said than done.
Obama claims to be a Christian as do most elected officials but once elected they frequently vote against Christian values.
Plenty of business persons also go to church regularly and still will do nothing to promote or express Christianity in their daily business.
I agree Christians should do what they can to promote fellow Christians in politics and business but I do not hold any illusions that it will have immediate effects. It will take more than a generation to bear fruit in my opinion.
Well then, I guess the Brits should do something about that. The pandering politicians obviously won’t, so maybe for king and crown, the Brits should expel the invaders of their homeland, (AKA: kick them out of your country).

Can’t see that it makes much difference in the former great Britain. Brits best get a jump on getting their prayer rugs, veils, and learning Arabic.
Will Americans resist Obama’s coup against our Republic or will they go down without a bang and nary a whisper? I don't know. You tell me.
Against Romney? soetoro is not going anywhere.
God save our grandaughter.
Strasbourg is not going to help defend Christian values in a thousand years. They are where the filthy paganism is coming from.
But this is a good illustration that Britain has lost the ability of governing itself.
The protesters (men in skullcaps, women in full-body black hijab) were demanding imposition of Shariah law in Britain and condemning the producer of the video, who was wearing a long skirt and fairly modest attire, for being “naked on the street” and asking who she was trying to seduce.
And people here in the United States were yelling at Santorum for saying people ought to question their choices on contraception... I can't imagine what would happen if I went to Boston, got several hundred people to wear Puritan clothing from the 1600s, and carried signs demanding the re-institution of the civil law codes of Massachusetts from that era.
It haunts me as well.
Exactly correct. It is called being equally yoked. We should not be entering into any lasting contracts with non-Christians at all.
