I never understood the appeal of Santorum. He is a big-government social conservative and he’s never managed or governed.

He duped his supporters but they allowed it because they never checked his record - seems they didn’t care.

Social conservative is THE draw for most of his supporters, and many perceive him as a model family man. That was sufficient for them. Not my guy for a handful of reasons, but I could have settled for him.

I liked the characterization of Santorum as a nostalgist. First time I have come across this word but it surely fits. Santorum dreams of a return to a world that never really existed except in his imagination, which in any case is unachievable today, and may not even be desirable for a free people.

I never understood the appeal of Santorum. He is a big-government social conservative and hes never managed or governed. I could never get past his past endorsement of Mitt Romney to even look at his voting record. Claiming that Mitt Romney is a "real conservative" was enough for me to just say no.
I would have voted for him in the general though. Besides he does look like Jerry Seinfeld.
I cannot (at least not at this point) vote for Mitt Romney. This will most likely be the second time I refuse to vote for a President. I never say never but the chances are very high I will not be voting this time. Even if he wee to pick a Conservative VP.

Therein lies the appeal. He was a social conservative. He was the last one we had in the running. Now we have no one acceptable
We can overlook his big government ideals (assuming he had them), becuase NOBODY that was in the running (including that nut-case Paul) was really a small-government candidate.
We can also overlook the (arguable) point that he's never managed or governed. Why? because he is a social conservative.
