George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch volunteer arrested yesterday in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, faced a judge for the first time this afternoon.
Meanwhile, a probable cause affidavit has been filed in the second-degree murder case. In the two-page document, prosecutors offer little new information about the shooting.
However, they said in the affidavit that "Zimmerman confronted Martin," an apparent contradiction of Zimmerman's version of the events that led to the shooting.
The document says Trayvon's mother identified the screams for help heard in a 911 call as those of her son. It also reveals that investigators interviewed a "friend" of Trayvon's who was talking to him in the leadup to the shooting.
Based on the description, it appears the friend was the girl described by Martin family attorneys as his girlfriend.
"During this time, Martin was on the phone with a friend and described to her what was happening," the affidavit said. "The witness advised that Martin was scared because he was being followed through the complex by an unknown male and didn't know why."
Martin tried to run home, the affidavit says, but was followed by Zimmerman. "Zimmerman got out of his vehicle and followed Martin."
The affidavit goes on to say that "Zimmerman disregarded the police dispatcher" who told him to stop, and "continued to follow Martin who was trying to return to his home."
Zimmerman, the affidavit says, "confronted Martin and a struggle ensued."
According to the affidavit: "Trayvon Martin's mother has reviewed the 911 calls and identified the voice crying for help as Trayvon Martin's. Zimmerman shot Martin in the chest."
Zimmerman's first appearance began just after 1:30 p.m. He faces a second-degree murder charge in the Feb. 26 shooting, which sparked international outcry.

Maybe. There are ways that aggressor role can switch back and forth. Why did Z leave his vehicle? To chase TM, or to get his bearings for the 911 dispatcher? If he initates a conversation with TM, but then clearly stands down, and communicates the stand-down, and TM launches on him anyway, then TM becomes the aggressor. Then there's escalation. Who took the confrontation to the level of lethal threat? A heated conversation, in which A confronts B, but B takes it up to lethal, self-defense still has play. It's common law. Everyone has a right to use lethal force to defend their own life against the aggressor who creates the initial threat against that life, but not against everyone with whom one has a mere argument or "scuffle."

What caused the gun to go off.....rolling around on the ground? Has that been established? Why has Trayvon’s rap sheet not been published...? Being Black makes you a saint now? Did his mother ever get the name Trayvon copyrighted? Who has ‘custody’ of the cell phones now?
And the defense can claim the dispatcher advised him TO pursue. Prior to the "we don't need you to do that", the dispatcher twice says "Just tell me if he does anything else". A few seconds later Martin "runs", and Zimmerman follows, before being called off.

EXACTLY RIGHT!! I suspect that she has a Nifong personality (and middling IQ) and thinks this will advance her politically. She’s as wrong as Nifong was.
We all have a right to self-defense and we need to stand with Zimmerman against politically motivated false charges.
Maybe this will be done.
However it would be hard for any human being to reproduce the sounds he or she made while in a terrified state.
In an adrenaline-charged state, I think one's vocal cords probably behave very differently than when one is just trying to *act* terrified. I think it is unlikely one can consciously control that.
This man is behind bars until late May for defending himself? So much for 'stand your ground' laws...

Sounds fair to me. They put his life in further danger and made it hard to defend himself - they knew what they were doing.
Whichever way it goes, Zimmerman would seem go have some cases showing he was deliberately harmed. Would help pay for his legal work.
Even if Zimmerman was on top, what was Martin screaming about? The Mortician said there was no cuts or bruising on Martin...

What other evidence would the prosecution have for 2nd Degree? There is more to this than what the media have been portraying, and in the affidavit it purports that Zimmerman confronted Martin.
Now, if Martin felt threatened(stranger in a strange neighborhood), and attacked Zimmerman, Zimmerman cannot claim self-defense when he initiated the contact.
That is what this case will revolve around.
It is possible to disregard a suggestion. Not many people know that.

Either way, Zimmerman ends up a ruined man.

That’s because there was no article. There may be an autopsy out there, but it is sealed up tight.
What you may be referring to is the word of the black undertaker who buried Martin.
He was reported to have said there was no marks, no bruises or cuts on Martin when they buried him. Just the gunshot wound.
