I expect the real 3rd-party momentum will be AFTER the election, after Romney loses. The GOP will fully split in two, between the establishment and the conservative, Tea party side.
Which will be ironic for the ITYS conservatives. Because the task for the next candidates opposing the incumbents will be for a moderate to move right and regain the conservatives using GOP resources, or for a conservative to attempt to pull their enemies back to the right using his own resources. If that kind of synchronized swimming can't happen this year against Obama, then it sure can't happen with blood in the water following a 2012 massacre.

And many conservatives are perfectly willing to speed that up by voting for Obama. Count on it.
