Mayor Michael Bloomberg went down to Washington D.C. earlier today to advocate for limits to Stand Your Ground laws, made famous the recent shooting of Trayvon Martin, which allow looser standards for the use of deadly force. Flanked by representatives of groups like the NAACP and National Urban League, he announced a new initiative to push states, particularly Florida, to reform their self-defense laws.
These laws are not the kind of laws that a civilized society should have, Mr. Bloomberg said at the event. This has nothing to do with gun owners rights, nothing to do with the Second Amendment. Plain and simple, this is just trying to give people a license to murder.
No civilized society that I know of, outside of America, has laws that permit anybody to just decide someone shouldnt be alive, pull out a gun, shoot them, and get away with it, he later added.

Do you have any evidence that the situation between Zimmerman and Martin had any resemblance to your hypothetical?
And even if it did you are wrong. By your logic every time a police officer goes up to somebody, or pulls them over in traffic and asks them a question, or perhaps insults them, the police officer did something which precipitated the incident. So by your logic the police officer is at fault if they end up shooting some guy who is fighting with them during a traffic stop.
Sorry, but that logic is flawed.
He’s right. No civilized society should have a need for such a law.
It should be common sense that someone should stand their ground and defend themself.
In a truely civilized these laws wouldn’t be necessary because there would be no crime and no violence.
But the savagery of white-on-black crime that has been happening for the last several weeks HAS a place in society?
Do you ask them nicely or do you act like a jerk?
(I’m assuming you ask them nicely)
But in this case look, Martins father lived right around the corner, he had EVERY right to walk down the street. He didn’t have a big screen TV strapped to his back. AKAIK, there were NO REPORTS that evening of break-ins or perps looking through windows.
Zimmerman could have simply stayed in his truck and waited for the police. At that time, there were NO life threatening events going on. No property crimes. Zero. Zilch.
I’m not a psychologist, nor do I play one on TV, but seems to me Zimmerman has a bit of a paranoid streak to him.
Sorry, meant black-on-white

A society that tolerates the level of violent crime endemic in our cities and towns is not a civilized society. Drastically reduce the level of violent crimes first then we can talk about what guns laws are reasonable in a civilized society.
Bloomber was stuggling to justify BLOATED TAXES.
As a government agent, Bloomberg is tryng to justify his existence. If people can self help, the why do we need to give so much to bloomberg. (shouldn’t he be off somewhere paying his fair share of obama taxes?)
And I don’t blame you for asking.
Heck, I called 911 when I saw a young kid climbing in a window at a neighbors house, the police came and checked it out and he had lost his keys. No big deal.
But I coulda made it a MUCH bigger deal if I had marched over there and stuck a 1903 Springfield in his mug. That woulda got his attention.
I just think Zimmerman went all Death Wish in the situation and he should have kept a cooler head.
I’m not sure I could find him “guilty”.
But he’s not squeaky-clean, Virgin Mary, pure as driven snow innocent either.
Detroit is too small to be a city. It lost city status years ago.
To be replaced with "Die In Place" laws.
Since TM didn't know Zimmerman was armed this is a stupid statement. He would have been no less vicious if Zimmerman had not been armed since he was not aware of the gun when he started his attack.
Zimmerman would be dead now if he hadn't been armed. To blame this on Zimmerman being armed is ridiculous, it is entirely on TM.
“Mayor Michael Bloomberg said No civilized society that I know of, outside of America, has laws that permit anybody to just decide someone shouldnt be alive, pull out a gun, shoot them, and get away with it,.
It is not “anybody”, Bloomie - it is the victim of the attack.
Note that Bloomie is from the Big Sh*tty, home of the Sullivan Law. The Sullivan Law is a de facto “Occupational Safety & Health Special Law” designed to protect violent criminals.
Here one may observe Bloomie acting like the true, OffenJuden, he came from and represents. He knows the “Stand Your Ground Law” applies only to the person being attacked.
Bloomie also knows (and hate that it is so) the “Stand Your Ground Law” was designed, and passed by the Florida Legislature, to prevent the victim from having his exercise of his Second Amendment Right being second guessed by some Prosecutrix, as is happening in FloriDUH.
The real question is “Does the Government have the right to second guess the decision of the citizen who was attacked?”
For most of America’s history, the answer was “NO” - one initiated a violent attack at the risk of one’s own death.
Only collectivists and those anomalies of history, the OffenJuden, hold that a criminal who posed a threat of serious injury or death had rights sufficient to prevent the citizen from using lethal force to stop the attack.
Bring out the Waffen SS, Bloomie is longing for, and propagandizing for, the “Good Old Days” in the Thousand Year Reich.
A case can be made that Bloomie conflates the “Regime” with the “Reich”. Kapo is as Kapo does. - Bloomie, when the jackboot fits, wear it.
Hey Bloomy, if you want to be a victim unable to defend yourself, fine.
As for me....No thanks!
I have no obligation to be a defenseless victim, and no law in America will ever change that.
If Zimmerman had been shot, this would never have made the news. Sharpton would have had his slimey nose to the ground sniffing out another innocent white victim!
(Love your screen name! Live Long and Prosper)
Why would that be, SJ? What facts do you know that would keep Florida Statutes 776.041(2)(a) from applying if you're suggesting that Zimmerman committed the original assault? Florida Statutes 777.041 was added to Florida law as part of the Stand Your Ground Act of 2005.
