Gas Prices On Catalina Island Pass $7 Mark
CBS LA ^ | 4/7/12

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND (CBS) — Catalina Island is known for many things… its picturesque scenery, seafood and hiking, to name a few. But what about high gas prices?

For the past two weeks, gas prices on Catalina Island have been an average of $7 a gallon.

Stacy Dizon, who works at the Santa Catalina Island Co.-owned gas station on Pebbly Road, tells CBSLA that a gallon of regular unleaded on Saturday is $7.03.

That’s what happens when you have a monopoly and it’s not like gas there wasn’t always expensive due to having it shipped over to the island.

Big deal you can walk from one side of avalon to the other in 15 minutes only sucks if you have a gas engine in your boat and a small tank and need to fill up to get back to the mainland

Sure, transportation costs, that’s it.

If you can afford to be on Catalina Island in the FIRST place, you don’t CARE what the casual purchases of the day cost. It’s not like Catalina Island produces much of its own merchandise for internal consumption.

Kind of like Manhattan.

Island mentality.

There are only a limited numbers of cars on the island that use gas, and a 10 year waiting list. This is self created drama on an isolated place. Guess it’s a GOP hit piece in the making, to be referred to later during the campaign, when we “breathlessly” hear that CA is “in play?” /s

Here in S.E. Michigan, marina gas usually goes for about $1.00 more than surface gas stations and since Californicate gas is usually much more then here, I’d say that $7.00 is about right........What are they complaining about?

The last time I was at Catalina Isl was 2 years ago when I had a bunch of relatives visit me here in Hollywood. It’s a bigger version of the Caymans and it didn’t surprise me about the gas.

In the past, I don’t use their gas so I don’t know about today, the marina’s here would double the price so $7 is right on the mark. Of course, you could walk the 200 ft with a gas can to the car pumps and pay the normal price. Have a boat - pay more.

The price of getting to the Island has also increased dramatically.

You try enterprizing anything over a couple of thousand bucks and the Communists are all over it!

Gotta pay the Communists! They make the laws! You're all good law abiding citizens aren't you? Laws are for your own good, and the good of the people.

Our Founding Fathers recognized slave pens when they saw them!
