An effort to shake up the GOP primary race is underway in the Lone Star State. The outcome could set the course for a brokered convention by keeping front-runner Mitt Romney from securing enough delegates to win the presidential nomination outright.
David Bellow, a member of the State Republican Executive Committee, told The Daily Caller that he believes there is enough support among committee members to call an emergency SREC meeting to vote on changing the states delegate allocation from a proportional to winner-take-all system.
You're right, but I suspect it approaches the disdain you have for stupid people that would like to tell you what's right and wrong. A classic, by the book, Yankee.
Agreed. I think its the same on FR as well. The hate for “Reverend Rick” is so strong that many would rather have Romney than see Santorum win.
Change the rules in the middle of the game. Santorum is desperate. And he’s the candidate the Dems want to run against, you can bank on it.
“Sadly its never going to happen, as the RNC has to approve the change.”
What rule change? The deal was if had your Primary before April 1, then you could chose winner take all, but with half of the delegates (as Florida did), or you could chose proportional (with all delegates). If after April 1, then you could have winner takes all, and all delegates.
Now the RNC could change that to block Texas - but Texas is simply following the existing rules.

Reagan was the Republican that the Dems dreamed of running against in 1980 and that didn’t work out too well for them. The Dems may “claim” they want to run against Santorum, but, in fact, he scares the hell out of them, because they know he can fire up the base.
The best candidate, from a Dem standpoint, is ALWAYS the one that insults the Republican base. McCain was a dream candidate for them, and Romney will be the same...unless we Texans put an end to him.
“Santorum can’t beat Romeny in Texas either. “
Don’t bet on that. The only reason romney has any support now is that people presume he’s already got it in the bag, and they just want it to end. If Republicans in Texas find out that their vote (for once) matters, it may not bode well, at all, for Romney.
Since this is so, what good would it do to change the way of doing things now?
I mean, he has already won, right?
I heard it on MSNBC in the morning.
I have no fondness of any of the 4 candidates left, really. They’re all incredibly flawed. But I still hope Santorum wins a WTA Texas since it’ll make it that much easier to have a brokered convention to get a REAL candidate.
You have no clue the disdain we Texans have for a carpetbagging SOB like Romney.
Dittos and bump that comment!!

Give the tax hiking, global warming, abortion peddling, gun grabbing, decaff drinking carpetbagger a big political San Jacinto welcome.
Governor Perry will do all he can on behalf of conservatism-—AND to thwart Romney.
Get ‘im, hoss! ;)
We born-and-bred Virginians feel exactly the same!

Oh, I see they are letting the RINO’s join up again. That is the biggest load of bull crap talking point to which we have been treated this entire campaign.
Those who subject the public to that nonsense are either ignorant or liars, either way it is to what should eb their eternal chagrin.
The FACT is that Axelrod has been on record for the past two years that they WANT ROMNEY.

It takes a fool to believe that the Democrat LEADERSHIP want anyone other than the singular former Republican Governor out of all 50 states that inoculates Obama on every key issue we have to indict the Saboteur @ 1600 before the American people.
I expect this crap to be spread @ Fox News & WSJ but even the lowest grade of human intelligence ought not be subject to such insulting basic sense defying tripe.
That notion is certainly Zot worthy.

Apparently this fellow thinks TX will be Mitt’s first win in the South.
Ain’t gonna happen.
Need proportional to STARVE ROMNEY!!!!
STARVE THE LIBERAL BEAST ROMNEY!!!!
At this point I no longer care very much which of the two men is at the top of the ticket, and I understate the rationale for 16 rather than eight years — though because of the rule that no candidate can be put into nomination unless they've won a plurality in at least five states, anyone supporting a Gingrich-Santorum ticket rather than a Santorum-Gingrich ticket has to come up with a viable plan to have Gingrich win at least three more states beyond South Carolina and Georgia.
There have been numerous news articles in the last week about negotiations between the Gingrich and Santorum campaigns — plus, unfortunately, stories about a secret meeting between the Gingrich and Romney campaign. I hope what happened was not Gingrich approaching Romney, but rather Romney approaching Gingrich, Gingrich meeting with him and saying “no deal,” and then Gingrich being stuck with having to admit to having held a meeting when word leaked.
Gingrich has a problem — his campaign not only has run out of money but also is in debt. Santorum’s supporters are still giving money though he's got nowhere near as much money as Romney, and unlike Romney, Santorum doesn't have enough money in his personal bank accounts to bail out Gingrich's campaign.
I am perfectly willing to support a ticket that includes Gingrich. The Gingrich and Santorum campaigns need to get together — right now — and find a way to solve this mess before Romney ends up being the nominee.
I think Rick Perry and Herman Cain may be able to play a significant role in this. Both backed Gingrich early on. In Perry's case, he's the governor of a key state where a rule change could radically affect the campaign.
It's a long shot, but one potential game changer is a unified decision by Santorum, Gingrich, Perry, Cain, and possibly Michele Bachman to say, “No Romney, no way,” and support a single candidate with pre-declared statements that other people on that group will be made vice president and be given certain cabinet posts.
A decision by five prominent Republican candidates for president to buck the party establishment and say “No” to Romney will get huge media attention and has a realistic shot of changing things in several of the upcoming states, not just Texas.
