At one time, I thought that all the three governmental branches jealously guarded their power and authority. The Congress has voluntarily abdicated its responsibility and so has at least 1/3 of the Judiciary to the Executive Branch.
Hitler’s atrocities were all made possible by the Enabling Act of 1933, where the Reichstag allowed Hitler to make laws - even unconstitutional laws - without any input from the Reichstag. The Reichstag voluntarily gave up its check on Hitler.
I’m sure they all thought they were the “good guy”.
Some thought the Reichstag was too limited and partisan to facilitate economic recovery. Some swallowed Hitler’s promise to recognize the Vatican. Some had already been rounded up as the supposed perpetrators of the Reichstag fire. All were surrounded by SS troops milling about as the vote was taken.
America needs to learn from history, or we are doomed to repeat it.
