Breaking: NBC Fires Producer Who Created False Zimmerman Audio By Matthew Sheffield Created 04/06/2012 - 7:55pm
NBC News has fired the producer it says was responsible for creating the deceptive audio recording of George Zimmerman communicating with a 9-1-1 operator, according to the New York Times.
The network is still refusing to release the name of the producer, although according to Times reporter Brian Stelter, the producer is based in Miami and has worked there for a number of years. According to Stelter's network sources, NBC is still insisting the deceptive edit was not done deliberatiely. The network has refused to say how exactly someone could accidentally have edited the tape to make Zimmerman appear to be racially motivated:
NBC News has fired a producer who was involved in the production of a misleading segment about the Trayvon Martin case in Florida.
The person was fired on Thursday, according to two people with direct knowledge of the disciplinary action who declined to be identified discussing internal company matters. They also declined to name the fired producer. A spokeswoman for NBC News declined to comment.
The action came in the wake of an internal investigation by NBC News into the production of the segment, which strung together audio clips in such a way that made George Zimmermans shooting of Mr. Martin sound racially motivated. Ever since the Feb. 26 shooting, there has been a continuing debate about whether race was a factor in the incident.
The segment in question was shown on the Today show on March 27. It included audio of Mr. Zimmerman saying, This guy looks like hes up to no good. He looks black.
But Mr. Zimmermans comments had been taken grossly out of context by NBC. [...]
The editing of the segment was initially noticed by NewsBusters, an arm of the Media Research Center, a conservative media monitoring group. On March 31, NBC told The Washington Post that it would investigate. [...]
The people with direct knowledge of the firing characterized the misleading edit as a mistake, not a purposeful act.
While NBC has taken a good first step toward rectifying the situation, until the network releases the name of the person and explains its theory that the edit was not deliberate, its credibility is still under question.
Full Times story is here.
Also with help from Brent Bozell and the MRC. He really started the ball rolling with this info.
The edit in question was the deliberate removal of the dispatcher asking Zimmerman if he could identify the race of the perp, to which Zimmerman replies, “he looks black”. Without the dispatcher’s question, it gives the impression that Zimmerman was overly preoccupied with the perp’s race, not simply answering the dispatcher’s question, and significantly alters the “flavor” of the audio.
Will they announce it on the air?
Will Brian W apologize to all his viewers?
The recording of Zimmerman was made public by the town of Sanford on March 16th.
If you study media accounts of a "hot" or complicated subject, and compare them with the raw source material, you find that the news reports are rarely faithful to the facts.
Not good enough. It is called obstruction of justice. People need to be prosecuted.
In the meantime NBC stuffed a gigantic cherry bomb into race relations just like they did to that saddlebag gas tank to make it explode.
Mr. Hearst cabled him back and stated “Stay where you are. You provide the pictures, and I’ll provide the war.”
Modern update:”Stay where you are. You provide the sound bites, and I’ll provide the race war.”...
I’m actually surprised
Friday Night Dump!!!
I am not a tv/radio professional; I am a listener. Anybody who claims this edit was inadvertent is a bloody moron or a liar of the highest order.
Release the name.
Remember the old standby, NBC, the “public has the right to know” ?
Brian Williams should be fired.
Without a name, how can we verify that someone was actually fired? If NBC can fabricate lies from the Zimmerman 911 call, they can easily lie about firing somone.
Joining Jesse Jackson’s staff on Monday... /sarcasm
“Without the dispatchers question, it gives the impression that Zimmerman was overly preoccupied with the perps race...”

I understand the point, but given the racial predilection of crime across the board, it is highly intelligent and relevant to note the race of any suspicious person(s).
They can manufacture fiction faster than an army of fact checkers can rebut it. And the rebuttals don;t get the same publicity as the original fiction does.
Not saying fact checking and calling them out isn't worth the effort, just saying that the strategy has to be to pick and choose which of the lies to go after.
The bigger bang, and it has been going on, and it will continue to go on, is to damage their reputation, so that people don't trust what they say. Then there is no need to check them.
CNN, NBC, CBS and ABC probably drew straws to figure out which of them would go with the version that got NBC is trouble.
Not good enough.
Who is it?
Hope Zimmerman sues. This is Richard Jewel Part II.
No one is being fired.
History teaches us that NBC lies.
Often.
