Florida Supremes asked to weigh in on whether illegal immigrants can be licensed lawyers
WFSU ^ | April 6, 2012. | Regan McCarthy

It’s now up to the Florida Supreme court to decide whether undocumented immigrants are allowed to be lawyers in the state. Regan McCarthy reports the Florida Board of Bar Examiners is asking the Court for its opinion.

Jose Godinez-Samperio came to the United States on a visitors’ visa with his family as a young boy. When the visas expired, the family stayed. He became an Eagle Scout and graduated top of his class from high school. Now, as a Florida State University law school graduate, he wants to be a lawyer, but there are questions about whether he can be granted a license. Sandy D’Alemberte is representing him in a case before the Florida Supreme Court.

In rendering my opinion, no illegal alien should be allowed to practice law any where in America. Who cares if became an Eagle Scout and graduated top of his class from high school. Now, as a Florida State University law school graduate. What do any of these things have to do with complying with our laws. I am very nice person too , I help others, and I just robbed that bank, because I needed money, cause I had none and ask anybody they will tell you I am very nice person , I help others all the time, I help little old ladies cross the street. I am citizen of the year in my home town. Can I get a court case to let me keep all my hundreds of thousands of dollars, the bank loaned me ?

Can an American living in Mexico illegally become a lawyer there?

Because that’s your answer.

As attorneys aren’t they officers of the court required to uphold the law? In that case if they are allowed to practice the first thing they need to do is present themselves for deportation.

Whose name will the law license be in; the illegal’s name or the name of the person whose identity was stolen by the illegal so he could live here, go to college, etc?

How is this even an issue? If you are illegal, you have committed a crime and can not be licensed to practice law.
Oh, yea and you should be thrown out of the US onto your behind.

NO NO NO

Regardless of what his illegal parents did, he needs to take a number
or attend a long long program for a high fee of course to help offset money spent on illegals still getting free benefits.

he needs to pay just like the rest of us.

I say absolutely yes, he can become a lawyer! And then he should be fined if he works without a permit, deported immediately for being an illegal alien, and, oh yeah, he can frame that law license in Mexico.

Because, truth be told, I shouldn’t have to give my birth certificate to a state bar. Now, get him deported!

Well as we have seen, an illegal can be POTUS, so why not a lawyer as well? Hell, how long ago did Barrys student visa expire?

Agree. I am also absolutely sure that no illegal should ever get the vote. I don’t care if he ends up appointed to the Supreme Court. The alien mess we have in this country was purposely caused by rats with the intention of overwhelming the electoral process.

There is no right for illegals, all of which owe allegiance to another country, to vote in these United States.

It's stories like this that make me think that rumor about Obama trying to create the North American Union were really true....except he just pi$$Ed off Canada so I don't think they'll want to play.

Deport him and all his illegally squatting relatives. Oh, and make sure they're all on a list forbidden to reenter.

Actually, I’d also have a problem with an Eagle Scout being an illegal alien.

Why should any law be followed if these immigration laws continue to be ignored?

Illegal aliens are criminals. As low as lawyers are, to have a known criminal as a lawyer is ridiculous.
