Big Tobacco is going all in against Proposition 29, the June ballot measure that would hike cigarette taxes by $1 per pack.
On Thursday, the parent companies of Philip Morris USA and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. reported nearly $9 million in contributions to the opposition campaign. That gives the tobacco companies a war chest of more than $23.5 million ...

Tobacco companies appear to be fighting public sentiment. A USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll last month found that 68% of California voters favored Proposition 29, compared with 29% who opposed it.
Still, the public has rejected a variety of tax increases in recent years, including tobacco levies. In 2006, voters spurned a proposal to increase cigarette taxes by $2.60 a pack to reimburse hospitals for treating uninsured patients and to expand health insurance coverage for children.

I guess we should have one statist freak in every zoo, jail or gulag.
>>As a FRiend its a FACT that conservatives from Washington to Florida marched into voting booths and voted to tax/or restrict cigarettes. Their legislature too.<<
Her at FR, we aren’t too impressed with strawmen. Appeal To Authority doesn’t exactly get a lot of press either.
I tried to advise you — but running the entire gambit of logical fallacies is all you Nanny Stater liberals have. If it will help you, I can give you a couple of more logical fallacies (besides the simple begging the question which you keep trodding through over and over).
I mean, if your FRiends won’t provide you the forensic rope by which you can hang yourself, who will?
(ask a simple question, get a stupid and evasive answer)
Well said...See you at the voting booth.
>>Well said...See you at the voting booth.<<
You didn’t understand that was a logical fallacy, did you?
I abandoned California, land of my birth, last year to get away from people like you. I took my 6 figure income with me (I work for a global company so it was just an administrative shift for me).
Good luck for you and yours replacing the income you are stampeding out of the State — there are more people in the cart than pulling it and the people pulling are leaving in droves.
Soon even your beloved liberal millionaires will become sickened by being targeted as the “evil rich” you liberals love to hate and will relocate (silently). Then it will be Nanny Staters like you who are too stupid to realize you are being played. Or you are enjoying your ability to CONTROL people, like a CID on steroids.
Pay up, bucko.
(btw, I give to a lot of charities, probably more than what you make in a year — but they are chosen by me and have proven track records of real help)
As one of the few and last Conservative Business owners still here in Calif., you don't speak for me. You apparently seem to think Californians are NOT taxed enough already; that fact (the mere thought) alone is disgusting. There aren't enough alleged "Conservatives" left in Calif., to pass this law. But every Left Wing Kook, Goon + Freaky here 'probably will' vote for another tax + when they and YOU do, you'll already be quite aware of where you can put your copy of your L.A. Slimes Newspaper, as you probably are STILL one of the few home delivery subscribers.
You don’t care about kids. You care about controlling other people.
You are probably chronically PWd and the only way you can even approach manhood is by using the State as your arm to restrict liberty. Next up for you, no more sweets, fast food or anything else you can use to replace your manhood with using the State as a club.
...marched into voting booths and voted to tax/or restrict cigarettes...
Marched like little control freak nazis... They will be coming after the meat eaters and fatties soon. They just need a control freak liberal to give them a shout out.
We agree on that...I'd leave California in a hearbeat if I could find work somewhere else. Yes taxes are way too high. The paradox is that they are not high enough on cigarettes.
I'm proud to be called a little control freak nazis by those who pimp addiction or death.
>>We agree on that...I’d leave California in a hearbeat if I could find work somewhere else. <<
That confirms what many of us thought...
>> Yes taxes are way too high. The paradox is that they are not high enough on cigarettes.<<
You don’t understand the economics of taxation yet, do you? You have had a lot of people try to school you but you just don’t get it.
I am still sure you would be more comfortable on DU, KOS of Huffpo.
>>I’m proud to be called a little control freak nazis by those who pimp addiction or death<<
Or anything else you, in your tiny brain and massive ego, don’t like.
Isnt a gun in a childs hands more dangerous than a cigarette?
I have asked this three times yet you haven’t answered.
Stumped the liberal?
I’m sorry? What???
Remmeber how the lottery was sold to us? “Our schools will benefit too.” what a crock of feces.
Conservative, eh? Like the Republican party. What nonsense.
I agree.
If you can't figure it out I'll connect the dots for you.
Or we can wait until tomorrow when you are a little more sober.
Agreed, it’s also odd that they are working to drive tobacco underground as they legalize MJ.
Give up your losing liberal argument?
LOL!
