ORLANDO, Fla./NEW YORK (Reuters) - Coca-Cola Co is dropping its membership in a conservative national advocacy group that supports "Stand Your Ground" laws such as the one being used as a defense in the Florida killing of an unarmed black teenager, Trayvon Martin.
The move by the world's biggest soft drink maker comes as corporate America faces increased scrutiny from consumers and shareholder activists over lobbying and political spending.

Wish I bought coke so I could ban it from this house. I'm sure there are other products Coca-Cola produces that I can ban.

I never drank that carbonated pisswater or any Pepsi crap, either. Yes to some cream soda in the 50s/60s, but not since.

I can’t remember the last time I drank that crap. Everyone who does drink it should stop. It’s bad for you anyway.

If I was a director of a multi-national corporation, I wouldn’t have been stupid enough to get the company to sponsor any kind of political cause. Cancer and children’s charities etc yes, but since when has it ever been a good idea for a company in the business of selling consumable products to alienate potential customers by involving themselves in political causes?
If I was a major shareholder, I’d want the higher-up responsible for this to be fired for their lack of judgement...

Wasn't that a Whitney Houston song, ‘I'd like the world to buy my coke’?

Anybody got a good substitute for the Coke in a Rum & Coke?
Maybe I’ll shift the Capt. Morgan and Mountain Dew.
Wait, isn’t the Dew owned by Coke?
This could put a real crimp in my drinking but principle first.

No problem here..I drink very little soft drinks I love Iced Tea above all those cola's and coke has never been one of my favorites..If I do drink a cola it will be R.C.or Big Red..
I will make sure my mailing list gets this article and do hope the rest of you do the same..As for Coke and all of its products goes feed the thugs because I will stay on the side of justice and protect my own life before I ever buy another product from you..
As for as me fighting a thug back or shooting I will shoot since I am not a strong person..So I warn you thugs of America do not try anything with me or my family if you don't want to be dead..

Would one of you knowledgeable FReepers mind explaining precisely what the “Stand Your Ground” laws are? What states have such laws? What untruths are being reported about them?
I am awaiting an interview with the sheriff for CCW permit.

Even my Democrat neighbors who were vehement about Trayvon being an innocent victim are now horrified that the media misled them. I tired to tell them before but they had to hear it themselves. They just talked to me this morning and are seeing the light now. Too bad Coke doesn’t want customers who protect themselves and their loved ones.

We do buy coke and we buy a lot of it..NO MORE..We will switch to another company. These companies are making a big mistake to politicize their products..People out here buy those products and people have different views and opinions. Sounds like Coke might have hired a politically correct Marketing Manager. Big mistake, Coke.
