(CNN) Mitt Romney added his voice to the chorus calling for women to be allowed to join Augusta National Golf Club.
When asked if women should be admitted, the Republican presidential frontrunner responded: "Of course."
"I am not a member of Augusta. I don't know if I would qualify. My golf game is not that good," Romney told reporters after an energy-themed event in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. "Certainly if I were a member, if I could run Augusta, which isn't likely to happen, of course I'd have women into Augusta."
Earlier Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said President Barack Obama's "personal opinion is women should be admitted."

Augusta, however, has major hypocritical sponsers, and CEO's the same type that would ban their advertising on Rush..
I'd like to see a little character....if you play for a segregated club then stand up for all segregated clubs....
all it would take would for the ultra liberal ESPN or CBS or ABC or NBC to refuse to cover the masters...or for that matter, if Woody and Phil etc would just announce that they will not play their...
you know Gary Player faced all kinds of retbuke because he came from a segregated country...
Wag the dog Part II
This certainly qualifies as a matter of national importance during an election year. I’m so glad to hear the candidates in agreement! /sarc
Smart move I think, and I am not necessarily a Mitt fan. But by answering the way he did there is no ‘republican agenda’ on the status of women members at Augusta.
If he had said the Club can make its own decisions the next question would have been "so are you saying it's OK to deny members based on race too"?
Romney didn't allow himself to be trapped. One point in his favor IMO.
Mitt, freedom of association is a tenant somewhere. Giving up conservatives to win independent idiots is no way to win an election. Why can’t white congress critters join the cbc at will while you’re at it?
Someone from the RNC called me today for a donation, and by the end of the conversation I had him admitting that the Party’s “Favorite’ was a RINO. LOL.
RINOmney...wagging tail....
Do you want me to say “yes”?
YES!!
Do you want me to say “no”?
NO!!
Do you want me to say “anything”?
ANYTHINIG!!
Get the picture?
RINOmney is a vapid dork with no sense of anything.
Its a private club, shouldn't the members be allowed to chose who can join?
Romney, how about something like what I believe (and most other normal Americans and conservatives:
“I’m not a member. I don’t know their private membership requirements. Knowing what little I do, I wouldn’t have a problem admitting women. But it is a private club and they have long standing traditions. It’s not for me to say why they have rules against it or whether or not it should be changed. If we don’t like the way they do business we shouldn’t join or support it. It’s a free country.”
How hard is that. Then it’s not pandering, you A$$hat.
Obama has a lot of personal opinions. Unfortunately, Obama thinks his personal opinions should be made law by fiat if necessary.
The National has always welcomed wives and widows of members to play which is more than I can say for the old country clubs that had very limited tee times for women.
Since one of the Dems’ strategies is that they’re trying to portray Republicans as misogynistic, Romney was smart in making this statement. Otherwise, the Dems would have used this against him in the Fall. Get it?
And the next question would be "so if a golf club has rules against admitting blacks that would be OK with you too"?
Romney answered as well as he could by just saying he would admit women if he ran it IMO.
0bama0 and Romney are BOTH jerks for even responding to this.
Since when is something like this a Federal case requiring the influence of the Executive branch, or an Executive wannabe?
Let the feminazis take it to court.
If their silly lawsuit has already been struck down by a court that knows frivolity when it sees it, then they should slither over to the nearest 0ccupud demo to see how the Leftards treat women there.
I take back my earlier post and would rather support a previous comment.
Romney should have said, “We have things more pertinent to deal with in this country than whether or not a private club should change it’s ways. It’s not a political issue I have an opinion on.”
I totally disagree with making Augusta (or any other organization) admit women if prefers not to.
There’s that whole “freedom of association” thing that everyone wants to ignore.
You are right.
Why in the hell is it even a newsworthy event. Oh yea! Because Obamass likes women (these days) and thought it would be a good political move to delve into more private ongoings in the US.
Looks a though we will have to listen to him or Big Ears for the next 4 yrs. How pathetic is that!
Let women into Augusta when men are allowed into Wellesley, or Simmons, or Hampshire. What a joke!
