The moment will probably come in the early fall of 2012: Ultra-conservative House Republicans will draw a clear line in the sand, and Mitt Romney will have to choose whether to stand with them, or stand against them. Romney quieted conservative complaints last month by embracing Paul Ryans budget and its deep spending cuts. Now President Obama has already begun to cast the plan, and the candidate, as radical. Many conservatives are quietly resigned to the expectation that their candidate will betray them, likely in the fall as he pivots toward the center. And some Republican strategists are already urging Romney to make that public break with his partys conservative Washington leaders, who are as unpopular with the broad electorate as they are beloved by the conservative base.

Gee, I didn’t know that the votes have been counted. In fact, my last look shows that Romney is still 300 (30%) short of the votes required to be the nominee.
What do you hope to accomplish but pretending there's still a chance somebody else will be the nominee?
I really don't get it. Can you explain what option you think remains?
So who are you going to vote for Finny?
George Romney was a citizen. His parents moved to Mexico to practice polygamy, they never relinquished their US citizenship.
John McCain’s citizenship has been investigated to death. his parents were citizens and he was born on a military base/hospital.
Rubio is a citizen. He was born in FL and his parents were naturalized citizens when he was born.
I do not know for sure about BHO, way to much contradictory information.
Robamaney is pretty screwed as far as I am concerned.
Because until he meets the requirement, he is not - period. Until Romney reaches the require number of delegates - he is not. In fact, we are reaching the point where there are not enough state delagates LEFT IN PLAY, for him to lock up the nomination.
I am NOT fighting for or advocating that anyone else will lock up the nomination. I am fighting for a brokered convention where NO ONE has the nomination locked up.
Reluctantly, I'll have to vote for option one. Which one are you going to vote for?
Gee, some choice a white obama or the black obama, both liberal.
I find this story laughable in a way. Like those pitiful few conservatives in the House/Senate thought Romney was going to actually stand with them. Their own colleagues in the GOP won’t even stand with conservatives.
The Party Boys, Boehner/McConnell could care less how Romney campaigns or governs as long as they get their time at the $$$ trough.
Conservatives are taken for granted blacks of the Republican party. We are courted, invited in with winks and platitudes but never given any positions of power and if we get uppity we are shown the door.
OK, reasonable enough.
I agree that that would be as good an outcome as we could get right now. I also think the NY Mets winning the World Series this year would be great. I just don't see a glimmer of a chance that either will happen. Seriously, not a chance of a chance.
It won't be two weeks before Santorum is out of the race. Gingrich will hang around, but only because he promised he would hang around, and he's angling for something that isn't the nomination. Could be SOS or could just be higher speaking fees in the future.
For the record, I live in NJ. Whenever the hell this primary train rolls into my state, I'll be voting for Gingrich, mostly because he's not Romney.
But I know its just a protest vote. That's all I've ever had in a presidential primary.
Well now ya turn to the Left,
Shake your finger to the Right,
Then you spin, spin, spin
With-a all of your might
You’re doin’ the Pivot....
That’s how you do the Romney Pivot
You walk that line down the center
Don’t let your toes dig a divot
Turn your back on the right
Keep on spinnin’
Now you’re doin’
The Romney Pivot
When will FReepers face the fact that the GOP is dead?????
When will Republican primary voters realize that the GOP is dead?????
How about the Tea Party? Are they still day-dreaming about a GOP takeover??
I take it that you will let your fear of Obama make you vote to surrender the Republican party to liberalism.
Having said that, for the Republicans and Conservatives living in battleground states that will make or break the elections one way or another, it is strongly advisable that you vote for Romney despite everything because he is still better than Obama (yeah hold your nose and vote for Romney). For those who are living in states that are going to be certainly won by the Romney or certainly to be won by Obama then you have the luxury not to vote for President but make sure you vote for the Republicans candidates for Congress because even if Obama is re-elected if the Republicans keep the House and hopefully win the Senate than they would greatly limit the damage that Obama would create.
“My options are:
Vote for the liberal douchebag shoesalesman who will most likely stay the course on most social issues and may (or may not) reduce taxes to try to get the economy rolling again.”
Social Issues—when you say staying the course does that mean continuing to support Planned Parenthood, global warming, forcing Catholic hospitals to violate their faith by providing contraception, gay marriage, etc.?
Reduce taxes-—is that part of the plan where Romney defines the “rich” at $200k for capital gains, vs. Zero who defines the line $50k higher at $250k?...or is it where Romney wants to tie minimum wage to cost of living?
I went that way once myself. Voted Libertarian, rather than for GHW Bush's reelection, because he raised taxes. For the next eight years, I had to live with the fact that I did my part to foist Bill Clinton on the country.
Leave the election to others, if that's your wish. Maybe it'll work out well.
I am trying to weigh my vote this Fall. I want Obama out but I don’t like Romney. If Obama is expected to win, I will be casting my vote for a 3rd party cause I am so sick of this “to get along, you go along” and the Eastern Establishment mentality.
“I would rather have Obama who would clearly be in opposition to the House (and hopefully Senate) than Romney who will use the power of the Presidency and the GOP party to try and force his Moderate (Dem lite) policies on to the American people.”
While Mitt may be Odumbo in white face, I know of nothing in Mitt’s past which would indicate he shares Odumbo’s hatred of the USA, our Constitution and hatred of all the white citizens.
Yes, Mitt sure seems to be a RINO but he is NOT a Marxist like the current infestation in the White Hut.
In that case, while the GOP has slipped us the big weenie, Mitt is still head and shoulders above Odumbo and certainly more experienced in both the Public and Private sectors.
