The Monumental Task of Replacing Rep. Mike Pence (Vanity)
4/5/12 | ReaganBaby26

Posted on 04/05/2012 9:14:28 AM PDT by ReaganBaby26

Come May 8th and then of course November,we will be losing one of the strongest voices for conservatism that we have in the House, Mike Pence. We here in Indiana will be (hopefully) gaining him as Governor but we are also faced with the task of replacing his leadership in the 6th District. Not an easy task considering the legacy he will leave behind. I have examined all the candidates and have made my choice. Having made my choice, I am now shamelessly promoting him wherever and whenever I can. Don Bates Jr and his wife Amy have lived in the 6th District all their lives and are now raising their two boys there as well.Don has been a financial advisor for 15 years and that fact alone is one of the biggest reasons he is the perfect choice to send to Washington. 8 out of every 9 Congressional reps are lawyers, which means that if Don is sent to Washington, he will have 8 lawyers to turn to with legal questions but those same 8 lawyers will only have 1 financial advisor to ask advice on how to get the best return on our money. In fact, nearly two years ago he was the only candidate that publicly predicted the loss of our AAA rating.

Some other things to consider:
*He has vowed to repeal Obamacare, a balanced budget and cut taxes.
*He is a Reagan Conservative.
*He is Tea-Party Endorsed. In fact he is the only candidate in the race to have both strong Republican Party AND Tea Party support.
*He is the only candidate in the race that has signed a pledge to defund Planned Parenthood.
*He is a very outspoken Christian but has publicly said that he will not run on this qualification alone.
*He is a very strong 2nd Amendment advocate.
*He and Richard Mourdock (running against Lugar) won the first straw poll taken in two of the biggest counties in the 6th District. In fact Don won by 60% of the vote!

Should have been the Speaker when we got the majority back. He would have been incredibly effective as the party leader. Sigh.

This sort of personal effort and detail to each local area race is very useful to those of us outside that area.

Thanks.

I’m hoping, after his term as governor, that he runs for president. I watched his speech at Hillsdale college a year or two ago, and I was very, very impressed. He reminded me of George Washington.

The people of the state of Indiana are very lucky.

Who is running against Bates?

Luke Messer (a lawyer and handpicked by the Republican establishment), Travis Hankins, John Hatter, Joe Van Wye and Bill Frazier.

If you listen to the media, Luke Messer is the favorite to win BUT he came in a far second to Bates when the polls were taken. He simply can not express true conservatism.

In my humble opinion, the rest of the pack lack the knowledge and/or funds to compete.

Pence is one of the guys who could have been a real contender (without lib interference and GOP establishment having a candidate already) for the nomination if he would have run.

Yes, Travis is. I will say this for him, if he can keep the same principles but give himself a few years of “growing up” time, he could very well go on to do great things. I just feel that this seat is too important to hand to someone so (for lack of a better term) raw.

Agree and told him as much. Good kid who needs to keep his name out there. Maybe get elected to something local first.

Can you tell me what issue Don bates is to the right of House Leadership on? Can you tell me where he has been critical of house leadership? Did Don Bates support increasing the Debt Ceiling? Did Don bates lend support to Boehner’s spending deals with Obama?

Don Bates supported increasing the debt ceiling and he toes the GOP line on every issue.

Also, could you even tell me where Bates is to the right of Luke Messer? It seems Messer has gotten to the right of Bates on Education.

Please bear with me as I don't want to sound like a broken record but since you did a vanity I would like some answers to all my questions...and a couple more...Thank you in advance.

*He has vowed to repeal Obamacare, a balanced budget and cut taxes.

*He is the only candidate in the race that has signed a pledge to defund Planned Parenthood.

Ok, he vowed to repeal obamacare yet he said we had to raise the debt ceiling which actually funded Obamacare.

He supports a balanced budget AND increasing the debt ceiling?

He supports tax cuts yet the 2.5 trillion in debt ceiling increase he supported will be paid by taxpayers(x10 with interest).

He wanted to defund planned parent hood but all those who supported raising the ceiling gave the government the money to fund planned parent hood.

How can you have it both ways?

Didn’t you say Pence was too “wet behind the ears” to run for President back in 2005,2006 (for 2008)? Pence not running the last two cycles got us Obama, McCain and the three stooges we have now.

In the mean time Pence went a little bit Washington and lost SIGNIFICANT conservative credentials (immigration 2006, big spending/debt ceiling 2011/2012). people need to keep the fire while they can and before they sell out, imo.

No I didn’t. Read it again and look to see to which comment I was responding.

Pence would have been my choice to run for President.

I know you were talking about Hankins. My point was that some said the same about Pence running for POTUS in 08 and now Pence has some seasoning in the form of big government votes that will hurt him if he ever did run.

Pence spends plenty of time in IN, unlike Lugar. He will more than likely serve as Governor,(Not an inside DC position) then move on to Senator or President or Vice President.

He has a servants heart. Don’t expect him to be jaded by DC.
