Actually, the concept of God IS very offensive to a liberal.
Along with God comes objective standards, and being judged by those standards, with consequences for failing to meet those standards.

I remember Rush saying something to the effect that liberals hated having the Ten Commandments posted because it was a constant reminder of everything they did wrong.
