Yesterday, Sarah Palin emphasized in her interview with Matt Lauer that whoever becomes the GOP nominee should not play it safe in his selection of a vice presidential running mate. She declined to answer outright whether she thinks this years VP nominee should have more experience on the national stage than she did in 2008, but she did say she thinks the presidential nominee should go rogue with his pick.
Former GOP presidential nominee John McCain backed up those statements today with this:
On CBSs This Morning, McCain, the 2008 GOP nominee, was asked whether he agreed with his former running mate that Romney should go rogue in picking a vice president.
I think it should be Sarah Palin, McCain answered, laughing. And while he did not backtrack from that statement, he did say that there was a wealth of talent in the GOP field, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.
Its an interesting proposition. Shes far more seasoned than she was in 2008, with a loyal fan base that would be incredibly energized by her presence on the ticket. But would she accept? She declined to run for the presidency herself, maintaining that she can have more influence as a media presence than as an actual candidate. If she worried she wouldnt have enough influence as the presidential nominee or the president, then she surely wouldnt be satisfied with the level of influence the vice presidential nomination offers, even if it was her launching pad to the fame she now enjoys.

Sorry. The Tea Party needs to head the ticket. No more back of the bus.
I viewed it as a smarmy comment also.
“I’d have to think on it.”
Our choice is Obama OR ....
Not too much to think about.
Maybe if Obama was running as a “moderate” against Kim Jong-un or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad I would give it serious consideration...
Well, she certainly has been vetted. They they would have to focus on issues, where she could shine.
I don't think accepting the VP slot is a suggestion of total agreement with the candidate. On the contrary, it gives balance to the ticket.
I would respect Palin for accepting the offer so that she can keep an eye on Romney. We need someone we can trust.
It's all a moot point anyway. Romney would NEVER pick Sarah, and I don't really believe McCain truly meant this.
“First thing that would happen is the Romney people would start backstabbing her”
Indded I can see that happening.
I got the impression last time that McCain and Obama made a deal not to hurt each other, and Obama would use his heavy artillery on Palin, not McCain. When McCain said that there was no need to fear an Obama presidency, he’d be fine, I thought I had confirmation of that. Certainly there was no battle between the two men.
And the press was getting lots of stuff about Palin that was irresistible to them, so they were kept busy researching that and not Obama.
is this some kind of late April Fools joke on McCain’s part? Hard to believe that this would come out of his mouth.
And to be sure that they get some women. The fight over the contraception has moved a number of women over to Obambi.
“On the contrary, it gives balance to the ticket.”
If the VP would actually fulfill the constitutional role of presiding over the senate, maybe there would be some balance. But when was the last time that happened?
As far as policy and implementation, the VP might as well be Mickey Mouse. Gore used the office to push his AGW scams, and Biden is a potted plant. The office of VP these days is useless.
If Romney picked the most conservative person in the USA, he might fool people on the balance issue, but that conservative would not necessarily have any influence on Romney’s plans for nationalized health care, gay marriage and radical judges.
... not falling for that trick again.
A pile of Mitt in the punchbowl plus anything else is still polluted.
This is exactly what the elite liberals and media want. Killing two birds with one stone, but in this case they simply want to make Christians the fools by lumping us in with mormonISM What a disaster is about to be played on America.
SNL & Will Ferrell, (the perfect Mittens), will have 4 years of Christian bashing jokes. How would a Christian lady as Sarah defend Mitt on this issue? She can't, so don't ask her too.
Newt or Santorum, go for it Sarah.
Doesn’t matter. I still wouldn’t vote for Romney, even if Palin *was* his running mate.
How about that Juan, and we skip over your boy Mittens.
No Romney! Not now, not ever!
I think you’re right. Romney’s loss would be blamed on Palin. She’d lose any influence she hoped to have in the future.
Bingo! My very first thought when I read it. McCain should be ashamed. Yet, he knows no shame. Besides, who could possibly care even one iota what Juan has to say. Wish he’d just go away.
I think John McLame should have fought harder in 2008. Sarah was trying to pull him over the top, but Juan “we have nothing to fear from an Obama presidency” McLame or Juan “I am suspending my campaign” McLame would have none of it.
I think there is a real chance that Romney could ask Palin to be VP simply because it’s very plain that Romney needs help to overcome his negatives with conservatives. My own personal feelings is that I will have a very hard time voting for Romney and there will be zero enthusiasm. If that’s the only choise I have, I will vote for him against Obama, but I always vote. I fear that a large percentage of conservatives will just stay home on election day if they have the same enthusiasm as I do for Romney. Unless Romney gets a cracker jack vp to energise the conservative base I don’t see him beating Obama. Who would be better to energize the conservative base than Sarah Palin?
That seems like such a demotion for Palin.
It would basically be saying: You are no more important now than you were four years ago when no one knew who you were.
Politics do make strange bedfellows. I never thought I would see the day when the people at the Daily Kos and the Free Republic both supported the same candidate for president.
Kossacks say they will never vote for Romney over Obama, and the Freepers say they will never vote for Romney over Obama.
Should I expect to see coordinated efforts between Freepers and Kossacks to get Obama relected ?
Granted it is for different reasons. Kossacks believe Obama is more liberal than Romney, and Freepers apparently believe Obama would govern as more of a conservative than Romney, but still in the end Kossacks and Freepers both want the same thing and that is for Obama to be relected, rather than to have a Romney presidency.
Obama has already said himself that if he wins relection that he will move FAR to the left. Which says something considering how far to the left he already is.
If Freepers believe that Romney will govern even farther to the left than Obama in a second term, than Freepers must believe that Romney is the biggest socialist in the history of civilization.
I am not saying that Freepers are wrong about this, but personally I always saw Romney as someone who just was concerned about winning elections. Therefore if as a Republican president he governed far to the left of what Obama has done so far. Which he would have to do if Freepers are right about Romney being more of a socialist than what Obama would be in his second term. Than Romney would be killing any chances he had of winning relection in 2016. Which means that Romney doesnt really blow with the wind as freepers say, but he is really a hard core leftist with deep socialist beliefs that he feels so strongly about that he would be willing to make himself a one term president in order to try to advance them. I am sorry but that theory just does not pass the smell test to me.
In the last week I have heard Freepers call Jim Demint, Paul Ryan, John Bolton, Mike Lee and Marco Rubio all rinos. The tea party in general was called rinos. If they are all rinos, because they endorsed Romney than I dont know who is left that passes the Republican purity test with freepers.
I guess possibly Sarah Palin still might pass the purity test, but she has already said she is a ABO believer, so I imagine she will endorse Romney once he officially gets the nomination, so I guess she will than be called a rino also.
Freepers seem to have painted themself into a corner where there is nobody left for them to support in the Republican Party or the Tea Party for that matter. The Libetarian thing is also out the window for Freepers considering how much you dislike Ron Paul.
I guess thats why that we now have Free Republic and Daily Kos on the same page. Free Republic purity tests have left Freepers with nobody to support except Obama.
She wouldn’t accept the pay cut.
