Though she's not running for anything, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan almost sounded as if she were trying to score points with Wisconsin outdoorsmen Tuesday during a conversation at Marquette University.
Kagan, a New York City native who had no experience with guns when she was named to the court in 2010, said she's now used them several times with colleague Antonin Scalia.
"He's made a huntress out of me," Kagan told Mike Gousha, host of "On the Issues" at Marquette's law school - and about 240 law students listening in on their talk. The justices have bagged pheasant and quail, and plan to go after bigger game out West this fall.
"He insists I'm going to shoot myself an antelope," Kagan said. That's fine with her, she said, because she's come to view hunting as "really good fun."
Displaying the ease and charm that carried her to confirmation, and probably makes her popular at cocktail parties, Kagan shared her impressions of her career and the court. She was in town at the invitation of Marquette Law School Dean Joseph Kearney, who said the two met at a conference for new law deans in 2003. He invited her last year to judge Marquette's 2012 moot court competition, which was held Tuesday night.
In an hourlong discussion with Gousha, Kagan talked about how her prior experience as a teacher, Harvard Law School dean, solicitor general and White House adviser informs her work as a justice. She of course did not go anywhere near last week's historic argument on the Affordable Care Act, and the audience knew better than to ask.

Which she should have recused herself from....
Bingo! Scalia is educating his urban colleague who has grown up thinking guns are used exclusively by soldiers and criminals. Now she knows - owns it in her heart and mind - that such a view is wrong.
It must be said that no justice rises to that position without first being immersed in the progressive urban culture (law schools, law firms, and courts are all lop-sidedly progressive urban environments), so they need no such tutelage from liberal colleagues (but a conservative justice can educate liberal colleagues just by participating in progressive urban cultural occassions and demonstrating that conservatives are not ignorant - we simply reject crap because our noses work).
I chuckle at the very thought of Justices Scalia and Kagan bouncing along in a pick-up truck in western South Dakota hunting antelope or better still stopping by a local bar in some small west river town. Word of advice when stopping by a bar in small town South Dakota do not order a glass of white wine or worse still a Cosmopolitan. Perhaps they should get in contact with Rep. Kristi Noem (R-SD) whose family operates a hunting guide business in western South Dakota.
What's VWR? Vast wing right...very wascally Republican...nope, can't figure it out.
Aha, if only that was the end of that sentence.
I was thinking vast right wing.... but I like your interpretation much better. Now I have Elmer Fudisms bouncing through my head.
I like it! I’m waiting to see what will happen because you ‘don’t mess with Texas’ - they may not be able to get around that law regarding hunting, but they’ll think of something.
Warriors, err, Golden Eagles Bump
He's got a good start on the 2nd Amendment!
Dad has said since her nomination hearings that Soto will be the Left’s Souter.....Hopefully both will surprise BO.
I spoke to a lib yesterday and spoke about corruption at the highest level of government and in the oval office.
He told me in unmistakable and explicit terms that getting the most corrupt and merciless SOB into the oval office is a desired goal for Democrats. He reasons that if they can do this he would be the most difficult to defeat in the policy arena.
While we search for the most Honest man, they look for the most deceitful, nastiest SOB in the party.
So forget about Kagan or any other lib. It's all show. She'd probably shove a fork in your eye if it furthered her communist agenda. When we get upset about Obama not having a BC, they view it as turn on that he got away with violating the constitution. The Democrat party has gone full blown communist.
Less than 3 minutes to the first tasteless Dick Cheney reference. I see everyone has had their caffeine this morning.
I believe Scalia has also taken Ginsberg shooting several times.
I suppose I was referring to rationale liberals who have been brainwashed and asleep. Even “conservatives” I speak to have no idea of the depth and breadth of problems with foreign policy, economic policy, etc. These are committed conservatives I speak to. They are just as asleep and vote like lemmings no differently than liberal lemmings. There are those who refuse rationale thought and debate, they are lost, move on. Some people just like to argue, having never gotten past the rebellious teen years.
Soto and Kagan had to promise to do everything in their power to destroy the united states in order to get the job from Obama. Anything she or Kagan says that sounds pro American is simply cover.
Can you imagine the bile and hate filled rants that those like Maher will vent on them if that turns out to be the case? You can write the speeches now. We don't have to wait. May they decide with this decision to vote the Constitutional Law they both have studied instead of the drivel that most leftists focus on.

I can decide between this post and #5 as my favorite of the day.
I’m just picturing Scalia and Kagan dressed in camo with their rifles hiding behind trees on the National Mall with the gazelles in the crosshairs.
If they Identify themselves as Democrats, I usualy find they are entrenched. They are the counter revolutionaries, the Marxists that want individual freedom to be extinguished. They hate George Washington, they hate America.
I have relatives that publicly state on facebook that they hate America. I know why they voted for Obama.
When I was first introduced to Obama, he said: Oh, youre the gun guy. I responded: Yes, I guess so. I dont believe that people should be able to own guns, Obama replied. I then suggested that it might be fun to have lunch and talk about that statement sometime. He simply grimaced and turned away, ending the conversation. That was the way numerous interactions with Obama went. “
John Richard Lott Jr. He spent five years as a visiting professor (199495) and as a fellow (199599) at the University of Chicago.
authored five books, including More Guns, Less Crime, The Bias Against Guns, and Freedomnomics.

Most people who are knowledgeable enjoy a hard discussion of their work.
With Obama not so much.
At this level of discussion it’s a sporting event.
In my opinion, if you cannot defend your proposal, you do not belong there.
Don’t forget that Kagan wants to turn Scalia her way.
