The first Mama Grizzly reference came in the first minute or two of former AK Gov. Sarah Palin’s stint guest hosting NBC’s Today show. In the opening segment, a very energetic Palin noted New York’s “warm” weather (by comparison to Alaska, where it was 25 degrees this morning, about 20 degrees cooler than NYC), Ann Curry scoffed at the idea that it was warm and that’s when Palin whipped out the Mama Grizzly. Alaskans are just made of sterner stuff than hardened New York network hosts, it seems: Curry was bundled up and visibly reacting to the mild weather. Matt Lauer wasted no time getting little digs and jibes in at his guest co-host, but I was struck by the appearances of the whole thing. Palin occupied screen right and looked great in a modest dark suit, and she appeared to be within an inch of Lauer’s height. She fit right in despite the evident hostility of Lauer and Curry, weatherman Al Roker seeming to be the friendliest of Today’s permanent crew. She exuded the confidence of someone who has hosted big shows for decades, not the typical nervousness of a one-time guest host going behind enemy lines in the lamestream media.
Within about 15 minutes, Lauer’s attitude seemed to change.

Don’t feel bad dear, they aren’t too kind to Jerseyans like me. I can’t understand the reaction of FReepers sometimes. I thought we were one big tent here but....oh well. Right now I’ve been having a two spitting contest with some character who thinks the Russians make the best combat tanks in the world. If you’re not up on these things dear the Russian make the worst combat tanks in the world or you could say they make the best pieces of junk there are. I miss The Big Apple sometimes. My wife and I work so much we haven’t been up to see a show or go to a museum in so long.

Sarah put herself in front of millions on NBC, in a potentially hostile environment full of enemies, and she just shined. No harm to her there, from what I could see. But then I see her gently burnishing her image for some future use, hmmm?
Secondly, I believe her biggest negative came from resigning the governorship in Alaska. Jerks call her a quitter, which I think is false. If I remember the story correctly, she was being sued, harassed and investigated from every angle, and (I believe) the state would have been obligated to legally defend her. So she stepped down to avoid the expense to the state and take the heat as a private citizen instead. She had faith in her lieutenant gov so she knew there would be no loss of continuity.
My apologies if my memory of the case is flawed. Corrections are welcome.
I fully disagree that she is unsuitable for any office. This country needs a Mama Grizzly like an airplane needs air to stay aloft. Negatives be damned, I’d vote for Sarah for president in less than a heartbeat if the chance is offered.
Just because your guy doesn't make it, and as a Newt Supporter I feel your pain, does not mean you abandon the Battlefield and let your ENEMY win without paying for every foot of Real Estate along the way.
Sarah was not endorsing Romney, she just knows how to count Delegates. Get over yourself.
Your last sentence tells me everything I need to know about your priorities. What an ignorant statement. Are you paying attention to what is happening right now? Imagine Obama with nothing to lose, because that is what this Country will be getting if he wins reelection.

Sarah was fantastic on Hannity's show tonight and I saw a few clips of her appearance on Tuesday morning's TODAY show (she was great!).
Anyone know if there is a video (ie YouTube) available of her complete appearance this morning on the TODAY show? Thanks in advance...
Thanks for your review, for those of us who didn't get to see the whole show. I did catch a clip of the intro, and she seemed to handle the jabs very well.
The question about "personal space" was astute. People in the large eastern cities (and the left coast cities) tend to stand closer when speaking, than do people from the western states. Such cultural differences should be common knowledge to anyone who studied communications, and I suspect Curry's efforts were deliberately geared toward intimidation.
Sigh...I have such problems with Russians in NYC (I haven’t seen so many since the 1980s); I can definitely believe they make the worst ANYTHING in the world.

I think Curry was simply trying to draw Sarah into the group shot.
I don’t think standing close or far away from people has anything to do with “left” or “right.” City people are used to standing close to each other because of the lack of space. It makes sense that Sarah is used to having room around her - being from a small town in Alaska. Again, I thought she was absolutely charming.
I also have a theory that people who come from small countries and/or islands, tend to speak softly (Ireland, England, Japan) and people who live in large countries, speak much more loudly (Americans, Russians and, perhaps the worst of all, the Chinese).
Likewise dear. If you’re ever around the corner of 6th.Ave. and 42.nd. St. there’s a building right there on the corner, a glass and steel one with the Grace Building next to it. My father was the project manager in charge of renovating that building. I worked as a ‘’hard hat’’ on that job in the early 80’s. He also was in charge of many other projects in the City, The Uris Theater, the Home Insurance Building,The J.C. Penny Building( The “J.C’’. stand for James Cash. My Dad knew him fairly well.) . My Dad had quite a career in construction management.
The Uris! Buildings on 6th Avenue! You and your father must be commended for adding so much to our city.
For years I temped at W.R. Grace trying to break into theatre! I’m sure you know that Bryant Park has been beautifully renovated. That’s been a long time now but I remember it as a haven of marijuana smokers in the 70s.
Actually the building I was talking about on 6th. at one time was the HBO head Quarters in NY. The Uris Theatre I believe was/is on 3rd. My Dad worked for a number of construction management firms in NYC, he’s retired now. One really nice buliding he did and I worked on with him was the Wall Street law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham& Taft on Maiden Lane. That was a really nice building.
The Uris is either on 50th or 51st on the West Side. Saw so many plays there in the 1980s - including the landmark “Sweeney Todd.”
