Richard Land says activists using Trayvon Martin to get out the vote [Duh! Alert]

Southern Baptists top public-policy spokesman said on his radio program March 31 that black leaders are exploiting outrage over the shooting death of a Florida teenager to help President Obama get re-elected.

Richard Land, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, described activists Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as “racial ambulance chasers” who are fomenting a “mob mentality” over the recent shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by a neighborhood watch captain in Sanford, Fla.

Land said President Obama turned it into a national issue when he said if he had a son, he would look like the young man targeted as suspicious while walking through a gated community wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

“The president’s aides claimed he was showing compassion for the victim’s family,” Land said. “In reality he poured gasoline on the racialist fires.”

Desperate aren’t they? I think they may be over playing their hand. They are also probably doing it to early. IMHO

Depending on the attention span of the Democrat base is a losing strategy...

Just as...Obama punched the Catholic church in the mouth, and when the Bishops say...”what about the establishment clause”...Obama says...”see, they hate women”.

It’s as though Democrat strategy is being designed by a twelve year old.

Can you say...”transparent”?

Apparently these morons have never heard of the Southern Strategy.

It got a candidate as bad as Richard Nixon two landslide victories. And by marching around in hoodies and looting Walgreens, they are likely to hand the same sort of victory to Romney.

He’ll be able to count on the vote of every white person between Fresno and the Schuylkill River.

At least Richard Land calls it like he sees it.

Land labeled the New Black Panther Party’s offer of $10,000 to anyone who makes a citizen’s arrest of Zimmerman “vigilante justice” and “racial demagoguery, pure and simple.”

“This is the kind of thing the Klan used to do,” Land said. “The Black Panthers are the black Ku Klux Klan, and they should be arrested. You can’t go around putting a bounty on people’s head. You can’t go around saying you’re going to give a reward for capture. They are violating George Zimmerman’s civil rights all over the place.”

If they have to “shore up” the black vote, they are in a lot more trouble than I can see. Really? 97% of Blacks is not enough? And IMHO this is going to lose a lot more “moderates”, at least the ones that voted based on the Kumbaya races will get together rhetoric of the last election. This can't be a thought out strategy, just a knee jerk reaction programmed into a bunch of 60’s radical “civil rights leaders’ or race pimps if you prefer who salivate like Pavol’s dog when the white on black crime bell rings. They just can't help themselves.

I find it interesting that no one is discussing the use of the hoodie as part of gang culture or concealment during thefts.

There should be a public domain montage of thefts by criminals wearing hoodies.

Wearing a Hoodie doesn’t make you a criminal

my three daughters love their hoodies.

and my oldest daughter is sure to remind me that just because Martin was wearing a hoodie didn’t make him a criminal....

yes the thugs use them just for that but we have to be careful with generalities... My daughters are not criminals for thugs. They just like thier hoodies and have made it a fun game to buy them from places we visit.. Alaska, Kansas, Bucees (<-—Texas Thing) etc.

I think we have been flooded by more than a few trolls trying to back door doubt and support for Obama via this non-issue.

and a red or blue bandana or shoelaces does not make you a member of a street gang either.

Though wearing a hoodie in florida heat is a tad out of place.

That does not diminish the fact they are indicators. Every florida sheriff office has a gang taskforce which is supposed to be attuned to this.

Late Feb Early March could be a bit chilly in Central Fla.

it is in San Antonio area as well and SA is almost as far south than where this took place in Floriduh.

I’m not taking up for Martin.

I believe Zimmerman had complete right to protect his neighborhood and his person.

I’m just saying we need to watch generalities or we are not any better than the liberals and thier “bitter clingers” or “angry white males” or “Vast Rightwing conspiracy” or any of the other things they say about us.

The core of this issue was never about race, and when we get involved in the race issue we sink to thier level.

This was just about protection of property and then life.

It’s a political football.

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, Jr. are the two biggest racial bigots in America and no one will call them on it. Three peas in a pod: Sharpton, Jackson, and Obama.
