Obama: Supreme Court Striking Down Obamacare Would Be Judicial Activism
RealClearPolitics ^ | 4/2/2012 | The so-called President

President Obama preemptively slammed the Supreme Court as a bunch of "unelected group of people" who will have turned to "judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint" if they decide to strike down his signature legislative achievement, the healthcare reform act.

Obama was speaking at a trilateral event with the Prime Minister of Canada and President of Mexico.

Obama touted the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as "a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically-elected Congress."

You are correct.

My guess is he knows it will pass.

The press will then say that he has a grasp of the constitution that conservatives do not.

Appointments refer to situations where ONE PERSON is voted for by one designated voter. In our system the President is the voter.

I don't particularly care for that system, but it is the same as any election, albeit one with a very highly restricted franchise.

Give you another one. The members of the House of Representatives are elected from small districts that fail to represent the entire United States. To increase the franchise to people who don't live there we could probably vote for all of our Congress-critters on a party-list system. You'd get to vote for all of them ~ not just that one local guy.

There a great number of possible schemes for electing folks to office.

Freepers, he’s just setting the stage to pack the court with several new appointees under the guise of “reigning in” an “activist Court.”

Constitutional crisis, here we come!

Obama is an idiot.

I can think of a few other choice terms for him, but yes, idiot does come to mind as well.

law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically-elected Congress."

Law that was passed by the rat majority after threats, bribes, and attempts to do end-runs around the legislative process.

“How to read the tea leaves on this.....”

I disagree. First of all, the vote they took Friday is just a preliminary vote, and may or may not reflect the final outcome. The justices will review each other’s written statements over the next several weeks, and opinions can and do change in various SC cases.

Second, if Obama thought the vote was in and was good for him there is no reason for him to make inflammatory public pronouncements about judicial activism. He would likely have been much more pseudo-magnanimous.

I don't disagree, however, that Kagan is unethical and cannot be trusted in any way.

I have to agree with other previous posters to this thread that it appears that Kagen leaked the results of Friday’s vote to Obama and his minions. I don’t think it was positive for the democrats.

I think that what we will see is an attempt by Obama to marginalize the Supreme Court just as he has marginalized Congress. Be prepared to hear the phrase, “Runaway activist Conservative Supreme Court,” repeated over and over during the months leading up to the election.

In other words, the entire federal government is broken, it’s Bush’s (and the conservatives’) fault, and we must allow Obama to have another four years to fix it.

Hey Bammy,

“Judicial Activism” hurts when it goes against your agenda doesn’t it?

Just keep grabbing more power for the federal government, then someday when the other party gets in power they will use it against your firends....

Gee, small and limited government doesn’t sound so bad anymore doesn’t it Bammy?

Big Government idiots are their own destruction... damned fools is what they are....

Obama is an idiot.

O's government:

Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least
capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the
members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are
rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a
diminishing number of producers.

Isn’t this essentially what Joe Biden said he’s been involved in over the last twenty-some years during his time in the Senate and Vice Presidency? Seems to me he told people he didn’t want to/couldn’t go get a real job, so they should vote for Obama in November. Lol!
