Former state Treasurer Tim Cahill has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of fraud and conspiracy involving taxpayer-funded Lottery ads that ran while he was in office, the Attorney Generals Office announced today.
Cahill, who left office after a failed run for governor, was also indicted on criminal ethics violations, the AG said.
The charges stem from an investigation by Attorney General Martha Coakley. A press conference detailing the charges is set for 2:30 this afternoon.
Developing . . .
I thought the move was just completely blatant. After the damage was done, Cahill went back to work as a foot soldier of the Deval Patrick administration. Just dirty politics, MA style.
I don’t know if he’d do jail time but here’s my song to the tune of the Pointer Sisters’ I’m So Excited:
He’s been indicted!
And I’m so excited!
He might have to go to jail
And I think I like it!
Two in the hat! No good deed ever goes unpunished! See Tim? This is what you get for your straw horse campaign that re-elected Deval “Erkel” Patrick.
Congrats!
Another big reason Patrick won is the same reason Tierney will win again in the sixth:
Richard Tisei! What a pathetic candidate and what a pathetic Mass. Republican Party who gives us a candidate who thinks it’s alright for a grown adult man in a dress to be able to follow a little girl into a bathroom and stand just outside her stall as she goes to the bathroom. Tisei co-sponsored this bill, which also essentially forces companies to hire grown men who think they’re women and want to wear a dress to work. Yes, the bathroom part didn’t pass, but Tisei wanted it to. A sick, disturbed man who I would never vote for.
Between Cahill and the Probation Department, all I see is business as usual. If we can target these cases, then virtually every political act is criminal. Send them all to jail!
It may be “politics as usual”, but it also clearly illegal. Unless a position is “patronage”, i.e., an official is free to hire whomever he pleases, for instance an office secretary hiring of public officials like police and probation officers, fire fighters and corrections officers is supposed to be strictly by merit.
As far as Cahill’s lottery adds, it was clear the rash of ads touting the efficiency of the lottery coming out the same time as Cahill announced for Governor were an abuse of taxpayer money, especially seeing how in the previous forty year history of the lottery no one saw fit to run such ads. What matters what he put in writing and who talked. It lottery officials told the grand jury that they knew the purpose of the ads was to aid Cahill’s run for governor rather than routine public relations, and that Cahill knew it, he’s in serious trouble. Especially if there are emails.
My heart is like an alligator!
Good!
Maybe his friend Deval will help him out. After all, Deval owes him big time.
But the major reason is that Charlie Baker is a typical MA GOP-selected jerk. I voted for Cahill after I heard Baker on (I think) Tom & Todd -- a woman called up and asked him, quite politely, what he had to offer social conservatives. He snorted dismissively, "Aah, no one cares about that stuff!" I hadn't been enthusiastic about him before, but he absolutely lost me with that.
