Its a first for Wegmans in this area. Theyve put up a sign asking customers buying pork or alcohol not to use a particular checkout line when a Muslim teenager is on duty as the cashier.
The sign went up a week ago at their Lyell Avenue store.

Dum bass moslem. There is a clean bottle between the liquor and him. There is also a clean plastic wrap between the moslem and the pork. Do your job or hit the gate!
Now, I have seen separate tobacco & alcohol checkouts, but never for groceries. These were legal requirements, not the wishes of the checker.
It is fundamentally bad business practice to cater to the employee rather than the customer. The religious restrictions of the checker are irrelevant to the customer. If you inconvenience & aggravate customers, they will shop elsewhere. Smart businesses don't do that.
I recommend the paper books, since Kindle versions of anything can be deleted. That could happen if the govt determined them to be “anti-govt” etc. Paper will last. You can get them on Amazon, (kindle or paper), or you can get signed copies from me. It’s all on my website.
Perfect response!
We didn't get a picture of the sign ~ and that means ~ this may be an analysis of what was going on as a new cashier with an hajib (scarf) is trained.
Maybe someone could follow-up with that store and see what the story is.
Chicago suburb Oak Lawn banned jell o ~ so, did the Chicago city school system ban it? Couldn’t find an article about the Chicago city schools actually banning anything except home-made lunches ~ (SEE: http://jonathanturley.org/2011/04/11/chicago-school-bans-homemade-lunches-to-protect-students-from-unhealthy-food-choices/ )
(1) I Had no idea Oak Park had residents ~ thought it was all factories and warehouses, and (2) The banning of home prepared lunches in the far larger Chicago school system is suggestive of someone finally getting tired of all the schools there smelling like sweaty garlic during the winter months. They do have a longer winter than most.
OAK PARK = OAK LAWN scuse!
Maybe just the vicinity school like you found.
I heard this on Rochester radio station WHAM this morning:
Wegmans announced that the decision to place the sign was a “local decision” (Meaning someone at store level) and that they have informed that person that the sign is inappropriate.
All open lanes are for all customers.
The cashier in question will be assigned a different job.
So there ya go.
Day late and a dollar short as far as I’m concerned. The lyell ave store is in the HOOD. Mostly “minorities” go to that store so they probably see this as a GOOD thing. I always thought Wegman’s was overpriced to begin with but very popular with the “foodies” who happen to be a large segment of “alternative lifestyle” in good ol’ Rottenchester NY. So is this cashier going to object to homosexuals coming through her line as well? Oh wait; it’s in the HOOD so usually gays avoid that area like the plague.
Tops and Aldi’s HERE I COME!! Oh and there’s a marvelous market in Henrietta in the Southtown plaza. Wegman’s selection with Aldi’s prices!!! They get a large share of Muslim customers there too, but so far no out and out CATERING to them!!
The Hood??? The Lyell Ave. Wegmans store isn’t even in the city.I lived within walking distance of it as a preschooler. Note the annual German festival nearby behind St. Theodore’s.
Yeah, they’re supposed to know better.
Everyone go to that store, load up on bacon, ham, pork roast, beer and whisky, and go through that specific checkout line. Make pointed comments on how tasty bacon is and how you can’t wait to get home and have some bacon and eggs with sausage.
Any Rochester area freepers? I will be in the Rochester area in a few weeks. I might need to stop at the grocery store.... I am a kosher-keeping Jew, but I would be happy to buy some alcohol.
Don’t know if you noticed but it’s in the “Gates” area which used to be where Italians and Germans “fled” to during urban “renewal” in the sixties.
Gates and it’s neighbor, Chili, is now becoming predominantly “hood” as the Section 8 and subsidized housing is infiltrating “outer ring” city areas and the suburban areas next to them. (see Irondequoit) The elderly that can’t afford to move or won’t move get preyed upon. Most young affluent couples are moving to Bergen, Rush, Perinton, Fairport and other farther away suburbs/rural areas; the very western and eastern areas of Monroe county or Ontario county
I know because I used to work as a clerk for the Section 8 program in the nineties and they were INTENT on moving the dregs into these areas on the taxpayer dollar.
