Before their first date, Mrs Obama saw a picture of him in their law firm’s directory; she decided he had a big nose.
She later declined his first request for a date, saying it would be inappropriate. However, Mr Obama persisted, and the couple has been married for nearly 20 years.
In a 2009 interview with CNN, the first lady said that Mr Obama took her to a showing of Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing.
‘Probably, by the end of the date, it was over,’ she said. ‘I was sold.’
