Oh Boy isn’t this the one we we turn every light in the house on, start up the cars and put the high beams on including the lawn mower, run the heater and air conditioner and dish washer and any thing else I can think of

Brilliant - this is great opportunity to demonstrate to the world the hoax and tyrannical nature of "climate change".

A big bright loud hour will show the distinction between excellence and achievement versus darkness and misguidedness.

Lets make HAH a big event.

Thanks for the post, almost completely forgot. Now I've got it down so I can do my part to offset (and then some) the 3 people that actually turn their lights off.

Just a side note to the eco insanity:

I’m a hobbyist musician with no delusions of grandeur. On one of the musician sites (lib territory, believe me) there’s a thread that’s been there a few years about “post pics of your home studio”.

Thanks to the digital age and programs like Pro Tools and others (the audio equivalents of ‘photoshop’) the power of the professional recording studio is doable in the home...to a reasonable extent. The cost of most hardware has likewise fallen to being fordable to regular schmucks as well.

So this one guy posts a pic of his modest desktop/home studio. A greenie type responds with “Wireless mouse...guess someone hates the environment”.

Now picture if you will, that there are several hundred pages filled with racks upon racks of hardware/computers dedicated solely to music production. the Terrawatts of power they collectively draw requires more than a small power plant alone could provide.

And this guy was spazzing out over a couple batteries in a landfill, completely oblivious to his own (not inconsiderable) drain on the grid.

Critical thought is a rare commodity in musicianland.

I’m all for it. “Earth Hour” actually causes huge spikes in energy use when people all turn on lights at the same time at the end of the hour. The ‘spikes’ end up consuming more energy than if the lights were just left on.

Written by my brother, Freeper itzmygun:

“From a power station employee: why Earth Hour is f*****g stupid:

People have no idea how the electrical grid works. Shutting off your lights for an hour doesn’t do a damn thing.

It takes 8 hours for us to start up a generator. It takes the big station and entire day (and those times are if nothing goes wrong, which is becoming less and less common with our aging power stations).

So when you shut off your lights, nothing is being shut down. The power plants are still sitting there, churning out fumes. They may back the smaller stations down a bit, but it’s a drop in the bucket. And they’re not going to back down much or for very long (if at all) because they’re waiting for that surge when all the people turn their lights back on. Matter of fact, if Earth hour was actually popular, they would have to crank up MORE power to get ready for the big surge when everyone turns their lights back on. Think of it as starting up a hill in your car. You have to have the gas pushed in a little more before you start up the hill or your momentum will suffer.

So Earth hour actually causes more coal to be burned and you actually get more emissions.

Good job liberals! As usual, you’ve done exactly the OPPOSITE of what you say you’re doing because you base everything on feel-good emotions and not reality.

Actually, those of us who turn all of our lights ON tonight will be the ones who are saving energy.”

Let there be light: 'Human Achievement Hour' to coincide with Earth Hour

Woo Hoo!

Thanks for the reminder. Last year I had to do last-minute scrambling to celebrate appropriately. I have a full 21 hours to plan this year.

Check that all outdoor lighting is working; replace all CFBs with incandescents.
Do the same for all indoor fixtures.
Have al AC radios throughout the house working. Same with all TVs, even the old ones in the attic.
Have the 500w LCD big screen going all day.
Turn on four desktop PCs and three laptops.
Open all windows at around 4 pm, so I can use the A/C or central heat between 8:30 and 9:30 pm.
Run the dishwasher and laundry washer on "Xtra hot" followed by the electric dryer.
Make sure the police-fire scanner is on so I know where the fruitcakes are burning down their houses with candles.
If I might have forgotten something, I'd be grateful for suggestions.

Who says all the fun is gone from the Obammer regime?
