House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) is expected to endorse Republican frontrunner Mitt Romney before Wisconsin's GOP primary next Tuesday, according to media reports.
Ryan would be the latest in a string of high-profile endorsements for Romney this week, as party leaders have increasingly coalesced around the former Massachusetts governor's campaign. The Wisconsin lawmaker would join popular freshman Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and former president George H. W. Bush in signaling support for Romney this week.

You can doubt it all you want, but that is precisely what is going to happen. If Romney wins the nomination, and at this point it is nearly certain he will, Sarah Palin will endorse, support and actively campaign for him. You better get used to Palin speaking highly of Romney and telling us why we should vote for him, because that is exactly what she is going to do.
“This thread sounds like a pitty party. The people who are being dumped on are great Americans who have done more for the conservative cause than anyone here. So, pick up your marbles and go home. The rest of us are going to kick Obams out of office without your help.”
Dream on....Exactly what has Romney done for the conservative cause?......What makes him a great American?....Lying?.....Being deceptive?....Having no convictions?......Being an opportunist?.....Or those in a postition of power and having no ba@@@ to stand up to the corruption (Rubio, Ryan, Haley ect.....) with true conviction to where they are ruthlessly trashed like Palin......Dream on.....I love my country as much as you do......
The thing about Romney is he will be forced to be conservative, or else a real conservative will run against him in 4 years and beat him in the primary.
Because we need to have someone to blame, when the reality is that the Republican base is not necessarily Free Republic. If its true that the base is who votes in the primaries, then it is probably true that at least 40% of the base are Romney types.
So Romney is a conservative because he has a wife and a large family? Santorum too touts his big family as proof of his conservative family values. Sorry, but knocking up your wife several times does not make you a conservative.
I don’t believe Romney’s assertions that he is a conservative. I know the man’s record. He would say anything to win. But if he by some miracle did win the presidency, all those promises will disappear faster than Hoiudini.
Alas. This used to be the locus of intelligent conservative discussion. It appears now to have turned into a circular firing squad.
Whatever floats your boat. But still, unless somebody gets around to asking Ryan if that’s the case, it’s strictly hypothetical! He might even imagine that if he doesn’t go along with Romney he’ll be picked up by some Flying Garudas and dunked in the Gulf of Mexico.
I don't believe Romney's assertions that he is a conservative. I know the man's record. He would say anything to win. But if he by some miracle did win the presidency, all those promises will disappear faster than Hoiudini.
The elites have made their choice. The majority of the rank and file disagrees.
This is the moment those with foresight said was coming; the moment the Republican Party leaves us. If there is to be credible conservative opposition to Myth Romney and if we are to posit a credible alternative to the Republican Party, now is the time to start.
If Romney is the best the Republican Party can do, then it deserves to die.
Very interesting. Haley’s performance bears watching. I wish he could take it to the GOP-e while he’s at it!
Maybe they were an illusion from the start: too uninformed to make a difference.
We allow it by not fighting at the primary election level.
I happen to be very close friends with a Minnesota Representative who belongs to the Conservative wing. I speak with him every week and he is well aware of the sentiments coming from the Conservative Base.
Oddly enough, the radical fringe rantings coming from this thread do not fully represent the base overall. Most of them are rather respectful, level headed, logical thinkers who resemble Newt Gingrich.
I have asked him countless times, as to why Congress votes the way they do. His reply is always;
[ “How long do you think any of us would be able to stay in office, if we were to always cater to the extreme fringe who represents less than 10% of the population?”]
Change the thinking of the population first, before you can have the perfect conservative world you dream of.
“Obama will be impeached long before the end of a second term ... “
With an uninterested populace and most of the media in his pocket? I’d bet money against that.
As for the GOP, I don’t even think they want to win the White House. What the GOP wants is the House and Senate so they can get the good chairmanships and committee seats. It’s all about influence and money for the GOP, they don’t give a rat’s behind about you or me.
My view is pragmatic. I’m on the back 9 of life, the longer we delay a communist state, the better off I’ll be. I’d like to miss it altogether, but doubt I will. I think we can survive a Romney presidency, and eventually right the ship, if that’s what the people want.
A second Obama presidency will be so disastrous that there will be no righting the ship, it will be sunken.
It looks like Romney is going to win, though there is still a possibility he can be denied.
Apparently a lot of people I have respect for (DeMint, Rubio, Thune, Issa, Cantor, Mack, now Ryan and others) do not believe so, or believe it is best not to keep fighting...but I will until he is actually the nominee.
If he is nominated, I will vote for Romney over Obama. Precisely because of the reasoning you gave. Anyone who allows Obama another four years is, IMHO, whistling past the graveyard, the graveyard of our country. But that is just my opinion and they are entitled to their own.
But, for myself, I will do nothing to enable another four years of this abjkect, American despising Marxist to have another four years to continue his mayhem.
With Romney, if we have the right congress in there (and I believe we will) we will hold him to his campaign promises and he will delver, because if nothing else, he is a politician and he wants to keep his job.
Report: Ard will never endorse or vote for Romney.
Exactly, I think we need to focus on what a President can actually do.
What I look for:
How would you use the military?
What foreign relationships would you foster?
What judges would you appoint?
How would you represent America in speeches?
What type of budget would you propose?
What is your policy on signing/vetoing bills?
How would you use the bully pulpit?
How would you use the AG’s office?
Do you favor unelected czars?
Who would be your Treasury Secy/Fed Chairman?
Who would be your State/Defense Secy?
For me, social policy, tax plans, and even economic plans are really not important. That is the job of the legislators.
I had a very similar journey.
I never really wanted Newt or Santorum, so why would I suddenly support them just because they are all that is left? I really consider myself apathetic to any of the remaining candidates.
