I was a cop for a very short time in the 70s. Two brothers-in-law got into a fight and one shot the other. We had the shooter in the back of the car transporting him to the station when he started saying “I shot the son of bitch. I hope he dies.”

The veteran cop pulled over, gave the guy his rights then told him to shut up and not say another word.” After he was turned over to a detective for questioning the cop told me “There were ten witnesses who saw this so he will be convicted. But I don’t wanta’ be tied up in court for months.

Seems like a lot of cops try to avoid “inconvenient” situations like that. I can’t tell you how many times I notified a cop of something going on only to have them either brush me off or go in the other direction. And even when they do respond they often take forever to get there.
