Daily Texan criticized for Trayvon cartoon
Houston Chronicle ^ | March 28, 2012 | Peggy Fikac

AUSTIN - The Daily Texan's editorial board apologized Wednesday for running an editorial cartoon that referred to Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager shot and killed in Florida, as a "colored boy."

The cartoonist, Stephanie Eisner of The Woodlands, apologized separately. She no longer works for the University of Texas' student newspaper, according to the board.

The editorial board said it will take steps, including requiring all newspaper employees to take part in a seminar each semester "about the relationship between race and the media."

"We sincerely apologize for publishing the offensive cartoon and for the harm that decision caused," the apology read.

.................Eisner apologized for what she said was "in hindsight an ambiguous cartoon."

"I intended to contribute thoughtful commentary on the media coverage of the incident, however this goal fell flat," she said in a statement. "I would like to make it explicitly clear that I am not a racist and that I am personally appalled by the killing of Trayvon Martin."

Audrey White, the Daily Texan's managing editor, said she hopes "to reach out to the university community for input on how The Daily Texan covers race and racism."

"I also want the Texan be more active in recruiting staff members with diverse backgrounds and points of view," White said by email.

The cartoon was temporarily pulled from the newspaper's website Tuesday afternoon to keep the site from crashing, according to an editor's note, but it was then reposted.

I found the cartoon at the NY Daily News. I was not "authorized" to access it at the UT newspaper, The Daily Texan [LINKED below -- more articles found there in "Opinion"]

I object to the word “boy” and quite possibly another word. Who do I object to so I may receive an apology?

A couple days ago the Daily Caller posted dozens of Tweets it claimed were from Trayvon’s account.

Trayvon was using @No_Limit_N**** as his account name, along with a picture of him displaying his gold teeth.

Anyone know if that has been factually confirmed as Trayvon’s account?

There's so much false information floating around.

Also read that the No_Limit_N**** is slang for Black on White robberies, or “reparations” in gangsta talk.

Abject self-denunciations, employment terminations, re-indoctrination gulags .. my my, what useful little fascist apparatchiks UT & the USSA are producing !

Anyone out there still harboring doubts about McCarthy's conclusions ?

Some days I'm grateful that my span of years on earth is nearing an end.

Where's the big brouhaha over this? Tom Hanks in race row over blacked-up man "......The two-minute clip shows Hanks hosting the castaway-themed auction in a room decorated to look like a jungle at the £18,000-a-year St Matthew’s Parish School in Pacific Palisades, California."..

OR THIS:

Upscale school revives a satire about race - Student actors confront their fear of offending people, as they depict a 1960s Southern town that can't function when all the black folk disappear - ".......... As reality sank in, whites in top business and political positions promised to restore things "as they've always been." But when one attempt after another failed, actors crying out to the lost ones seemed schizophrenic - first pleading for the nigras' return, then fuming with anger at their audacity in leaving.

Tongue-in-cheek humor came with a sharp edge. A police officer, for instance, nicknamed "two-a-day Pete" for his track record of beating blacks daily, got hauled off to an asylum. "He was unable," a friend lamented, "to stand the shock of having his spotless slate sullied by interruption."

Yet for all its satirical bite, "Day of Absence" on the stage at Noble may have reinforced preexisting values more than it sparked any new awareness.

"I watch out for things that make liberal white people feel good but don't advance an enlightenment of things," said Anne Eccles, a Lexington, Mass. mother of three, who watched her daughter perform on opening night. "I wonder if this might belong to that category.... This is an upper-middle-class, liberal environment, so of course, it didn't change any attitudes at all."

With tuition price tags of $22,700 for day students and $28,800 for five-day-per-week boarders, Noble and Greenough caters to children of professionals in Boston's upscale western suburbs. Their world, where just 6 percent of the 535 students are black, seems far removed from the 1960s "Day of Absence" Southern town, where blacks were half the population before they vanished.

This sheltered, comfortable setting compels Bob Henderson, head of the school, to make the challenges of living with diversity a regular topic at assemblies. His hope for "Day of Absence" was to get people talking about something too many on campus might take for granted: interdependence and reciprocal appreciation across racial lines.

"I guess where there's a certain amount of privilege, it's more important to do it here," he said, compared with a setting where interracial harmony may not be the status quo."....

How exactly is she wrong?
Trayvon was never shown by the media as a man, but always as a boy, as a smiling innocent boy, it took the blogs to show his true likeness, grill and all.
Is this the new mohammad cartoon, and will those that look like obama take it on themselves to make this artist go into hiding for her life?

Media Matters Humiliated "A senior official at Soros-funded Media Matters falsely accused Matt Drudge of publishing a bogus picture of Trayvon Martin, that turned out to be genuine, taken from his Twitter page. After the bogus nature of his accusation was forcefully impressed upon him, senior analyst MJ Rosenberg apologized - not to Drudge, but to readers and the Martin family. This churlish inability to directly address the target of his libel marks Rosenberg almost as seriously as his readiness to accuse first, research later. Fox News reports:

___________

"Racist demagogue Drudge continues to run photo of some kid, not Trayvon for incitement purposes," MJ Rosenberg initially tweeted at 10:56 a.m. ET, after drudgereport.com and other media sites posted a photo of Martin sporting a tank top, looking noticeably older and bigger than he appears in a photograph widely carried by media outlets that have reported on the story.

Rosenberg followed that posting by retweeting a message saying, "Matt Drudge has done more to debase American news coverage than anyone in history of country."

________ But he was tweeting a different tune at 1:03 p.m., when he wrote, "Mixed up Drudge photo of Trayvon w Michelle Malkin's. Malkin's is an admitted fake. Drudge? Don't know. Sorry." That tweet was immediately followed by another saying, "Malkin apologized for fake #Trayvon photo. I apologize for mixing up her photo with one Drudge used." (snip)

____________ Media Matters is not accepting responsibility for the actions of its senior staff member:

A spokeswoman for Media Matters, a non-profit organization that professes to correct what it considers conservative bias in the media, declined to comment. But the spokeswoman noted Rosenberg's Twitter feed does not necessarily reflect his employer's views.

_____________

Rosenberg is a nasty piece of work......"

I will not bow down to your idol, liberals. I refuse. I don't care WHAT you do to me anymore. God will deliver me, and even if he does not, I still won't bow down to your idol. Throw me into the furnace.

You simply can not tell me what to think, what to say and how to view things from your perspective. You can not break my will. No threats, no punishment not even death is going to make me change my mind. So, now what are you going to do?

P.S. The lion's den awaits you.

The Daily Texan's editorial board apologized Wednesday for running an editorial cartoon that referred to Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager shot and killed in Florida, as a "colored boy."

If the cartoonist had instead written "boy of color", I'm sure nobody would have complained. Because we all know that "colored boy" and "boy of color" are dissimilar in every conceivable way (just as are "poetry book" and "book of poetry"). Right?

This was a topic on KLBJ - fairly conservvative talk radio station in Austin - the other day. People were offended by the words “colored boy” and it got pulled from the site.

You and me too.

The cancer of Socialism feeds the cancer of Marxism which feeds the worst cancer of all...Communism. The chain of events is impossible to stop once started...and it has certainly started here.

I am lucky because I have no children that will have to endure what is to come. I feel sorry for those who do.

I feel fortunate for the gift of living in the real America from the late 40’s through the early 60’s where law was enforced as written (with no exceptions) and crime was nowhere like it is now.

It’s a shame. It’s a shame that at this turning point in the history of America, we have no one who will represent us.

+1

I would only take exception to this part:

The cancer of Socialism feeds the cancer of Marxism which feeds the worst cancer of all...Communism

.. in that they're all the same evil animal at heart - Totalitarianism.

The collectivist/statist mindset of American 'liberalism/progressivism' differs not a whit
from Mussolino's fascism or Hitler's nazism or Stalin's communism.
