The outlook might be bleak for Obamacare, but the outlook for Obama himself is downright rosy. Two new polls show the president's approval rating and electoral prospects much improved from previous polls.
A CNN/ORC poll found that 56 percent of the public like Obama generally, 51 percent approve of his job performance and 54 percent would vote for him over Mitt Romney. More from Political Ticker's summary of the poll:
If the general election were held today instead of in early November, 54% of registered voters say they would back Obama, with 43% supporting former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the front-runner in the GOP nomination battle. That's up from a five-point 51%-46% advantage the president held over Romney in February.
And Obama would have a 55%-42% lead over Santorum, the former senator from Pennsylvania who's Romney's main rival right now for the nomination. The president led Santorum by a seven-point 52%-45% margin last month.
“President Obama currently wins majority support among groups that have been problematic for him in the past, including men, older voters, and suburbanites,” says CNN Poling Director Keating Holland. “He has a solid lead among independents as well.”
Importantly, the poll also showed a majority of voters still blame Bush and Republicans for the poor economy.
A new Quinnipiac poll of swing states also showed Obama on the uptick in crucial parts of the country:
In Florida: Mr. Obama bests Mr. Romney 49%-42%, and tops Mr. Santorum 50%-37%.
In Ohio: Mr. Obama leads Mr. Romney 47% 41%, and Mr. Santorum 47% 40%.
In Pennsylvania: Mr. Obama has about 45% support compared with Mr. Romneys 42%, within the polls 2.8 percentage point margin of error. Mr. Obama bests Mr. Santorum 48%-41%.
The assistant director of polling for Quinnipiac says the results might be explained by voters’ views on the economy and gas prices: Six in 10 think the economy is improving and just one in six blame Obama for high gas prices. Instead, voters fault oil and gas companies and oil-producing countries.
A part of me is really burned up by these polls: It suggests to me that voters buy Obama’s blame-anybody-and-everything-around-me rhetoric without a second thought. By a number of measures, the economy is improving and, sure, Bush shares some of the blame for how weak the economy has been. But what were the Bush-era behaviors that were most problematic? Big spending. Yet, compared with Obama, Bush was a penny pincher! And Obama’s energy policies haven’t exactly helped to make energy costs more affordable.
Another part of me just thinks, “Oh well, the election isn’t today.” Much can and will still change before November.
they want you to think its Obama/Romney 2012. Oops! I mean Obama vs. Romney 2012.
We’ll see about that on November 6th.
Certainly not America!
Romney has been campaigning for 4 years and people STILL hate him. This is going to be a slaughter for the GOP. Thanks for nothing GOP elite.
Santorum 2012
Mitt Romney wins much coveted Jimmy Carter endorsement
Gore Praises Romney's 'Climate Protection Plan'
Carville(D):
"It's a feel-good story, this Romney thing.
Romney is an ascendant guy."
Sen. John Kerry (D) to Don Imus on RomneyCARE:
"I like this health care bill".
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D) on RomneyCARE:
"To come up with a bipartisan plan in this polarized environment is commendable."
I believe this like I still believe Elvis is alive
Mittens has no contrast to offer voters. He’s Obama lite. I can not beleive the GOP is sticking it to America like this.
“Romney has been campaigning for 4 years and people STILL hate him. This is going to be a slaughter for the GOP.”
In ‘08 I really did not know Willard Mitt Romney, and just disliked him. By now, I know a lot about him, and detest him. Most people like him less the more they get to know him.
It will be a massacre, and it may be better that this Trojan Jackass candidate is burned to ashes before he is pulled into the gates.
I encourage all to write to their congressman, state and national GOP chairs and tell them that you will not vote for Romney under any circumstances even if you do intend to hold your nose and vote for him.
No reason we should encourage them or make them feel comfortable about Romney.
” I can not beleive the GOP is sticking it to America like this.”
“Yes You Can! “
Yes you will see. We will all see, that Obama will be President again because there is no way Rodney is beating him. And we have the self-hating Republican Party Elites to thank for this.
I’ve been saying from the beginning, Romney was put there to lose. He’s this cycle’s McCain.

Since it is a CNN poll, I figure it is pure horse scat, but if true, it confirms that America is finished.
I would NEVER consider returning to live there.
My only concern is that my Social Security does not dry up and blow away.
Other then that, I will miss nothing.
“I can not beleive the GOP is sticking it to America like this.”
Since they saw the latent power of the people called the ‘Tea Party’, the GOP’s primary objective has been to domesticate or eliminate that movement. They have gone a long way towards accomplishing that object. The GOP is the right hand door of the Government Party. The Democrats are the left hand door. It is the same building serving the same purposes whether you enter on the left or on the right.
You misunderestimate how energized the anti-Ubama electorate is.
RE: I would NEVER consider returning to live there.
Where on earth are you living now? Is it better than here over there?
The response to this poll proves on thing: Freepers hate Romney more than they understand polls. Don’t get me wrong, Freepers understand polls very well for the most part. Apparently they hate Romney even more.
The comments on this thread should be about the bogus BS nature of this poll, using “adults” - not “registered voters” much less “likely voters.” This poll is meaningless.
Interviews with 1,014 adult Americans conducted by telephone by ORC International on March 24-25, 2012. The margin of sampling error for results based on the total sample is plus or minus 3 percentage points. The sample also includes 925 interviews among registered voters (plus or minus 3 percentage points). The sample includes 761 interviews among landline respondents and 253 interviews among cell phone respondents. FOR
They are polling people that are not even registered to vote for crying out loud. Wake me up when a poll of likely voters comes out. It is also a weekend poll with the weather getting good. Geez.
We will also be able to thank the people on Free Republic who refuse to vote if the nominee is Romney. We know what Obama is. I guess those who stay home are comfortable with that. I’m not.
Obama has all sorts of things planned if he wins. Although, I would be uncomfortable voting for Romney, there may be a chance that he will work with the Republicans. We will live in tyranny under Obama.
