(Reuters) - The Obama administration's top courtroom lawyer made an impassioned plea on Wednesday for the Supreme Court to save President Barack Obama's healthcare law, capping three days of historic arguments that left it unclear how the nine justices would rule.
Having peppered the lawyers defending and challenging the law with questions for more than six hours over the three days, the justices withdrew to their chambers to begin up to three months of deliberation expected to yield a decision by late June.
Obama's healthcare overhaul, signed into law two years ago, is his signature domestic policy achievement. It remains a divisive issue among Americans and is likely to be an key issue ahead of the November 6 election in which he seeks a second term.
The justices took up two final issues on the last day of arguments on Wednesday: whether the rest of the law could stand if the centerpiece requirement that most Americans get insurance or face a penalty is struck down; and the validity of expanding the state-federal Medicaid healthcare program for the poor.
After what critics called a poor performance on Tuesday, U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, arguing for the administration, closed his case with an emotional request that the justices uphold the law. Verrilli cited millions of people with chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer who would get health insurance under the law.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
The left knows it’s over.
The decision won’t be made until late June?
Verrilli might have been more effective if he cited millions of blind people crossing a busy street and nobody there to save them.
Everyone that voted for this bill should be dragged from office. They tried to steal our liberties and our treasure. Everyone of them most go including our inept leadership that allowed it to happen. Boner and McDonalds.
The decision will probably be made today, if it wasn't in the last few weeks or months. It's just that we won't know it until June. Now that they do indeed have a decision, they write up their arguments, for and against, divy up the tasks among them. Once written, they'll haggle for a few months back and forth on wording.
I have very little faith that the SC will kill the bill. They are no different that the mass of idiots that govern us.
i am so sick of this crap about it being “Obama’s signature legislation”
So FFFNNNGGG what? Its a horrid mess and was passed in the dead of night without even being read!
That’s funny, because 8 of them had their minds made up before this case even started.
I think they’ll kill it.
I also thought OJ Simpson and Casey Anthony were guilty, too. We all know how that turned out.
This is the most preposterous, insidious, evil piece of legislation in American history! A pure, unadulterated,
massive power grab by the federal government, meant to enslave all of us, destroy churches, kill babies, and the elderly.
I say, it all gets tossed.
It's like an episode of "As the World Turns".
I think you get the award for Post of the day

SCOTUS doesn’t want this to be too close to the election so expect a decision sooner.
Obama has little to do with this law. He is to friggin stupid to author any it. Pelosi, and Reid are the real culprits.
What’s at play there is the “how could you do this to the First Black President” plea.
This.
