Obama's Zone Defense

resident Obama, under mounting political pressure following disclosure of comments to Russia’s president about future flexibility in missile defense talks, told reporters on Tuesday he is not “hiding the football” regarding secret talks on the issue.

The president was overheard Monday through an open microphone in Seoul having a private conversation with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.

The president said Moscow should give him “space” from political pressure during the reelection campaign. In exchange, he promised more “flexibility” in addressing Moscow’s opposition to planned missile defenses in Europe, comments widely viewed as offering additional concessions on U.S. strategic defenses.

Medvedev said he would relay the president’s comments to “Vladimir,” a reference to incoming Russian President Putin.

The president’s comments drew harsh criticism from congressional Republicans and other missile defense advocates who said the candid remarks showed the president was preparing to give in to Moscow’s demands to impose limits on missile defenses, something the president earlier promised he would not do.

How anyone could vote for him now is beyond me. Of course it was beyond me even before this happened based on his other policies. Actually it was beyond me back in 2008.

"How anyone could vote for him now is beyond me."

Many of the same people who liked his policies and politics in 2008 will not be put off by this at all. They would love to see the US "get whats coming to them", even if it is at the hands of the Russians.

I've never bought into the whole "enemy of my enemy is my friend" cliche, but some of the unthinking, short sighted, G-D America crowd will lap that up like babies milk.

Obama has been on both sides of this issue, said a deterrent to the Russians wasn’t neccessary in 2008, then he said that well, we should deter Russians in 2010, then the leaked video reveals that he totally intended the opposite. It’s interesting how many sides Obama has taken the whole time around as president.

Actually it was beyond me back in 2008.

Well, in 2008, McCain/Palin wasn’t up to the preferences of some moderates, and some liberals. But then again, it’s beyond me why it’s only the right that cares about flip-flops in candidates.
