NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jaime Alas scored in stoppage time and El Salvador ousted the United States from Olympic qualifying Monday night with a 3-3 tie.

The Americans had to win to reach Saturday's semifinals in Kansas City, Kan., and they led 3-2 on Joe Corona's goal in the 68th minute.

But Alas scored his goal off the hands off keeper Sean Johnson to stun the Americans, who missed the Olympics for the second time since 1976.

I watch soccer every day: European Champions League, Europa League, Bundesliga, 2nd Bundesliga, occasional games from the English Premier League, and the Spanish and Italian Leagues. Also the World Cup and the European Championship.

However, absolutely never, not even once, have I watched a soccer game from the Olympics. Seriously, nobody cares about them. Most countries only send a bunch of amateur squads there. Don’t know why, but that’s the way it is.

Like the metric system, the left has been trying to jam soccer down our throats since the 70’s.. and the more they try, the more we reject it.

I think the only chance for US soccer internationally is make the Americas one group, so we have to qualify against Argentina/Brazil/Uruguay/etc. Either they’ll rise to the occasion, or admit they’re outclassed and focus on baseball.

This nonsense where we slap Haiti around in a group designed to allow the US and Mexico to qualify for each World Cup is silly.

We are only good at the sports we don’t let anyone else play.

Soccer is for Euroweenies and 3rd worlders...so enjoy.

Baseball was taken away from the Olympics....because the one worlders do not like the idea of American exceptionalism.

as far as a national pastime?

Soccer is a marxist sport...equalizing everything. Boring? I’d rather watch curling, bowling or synchronized ribbon tossing.

I think soccer is quite boring, but I fail to see it as Marxist. Could you elaborate?

What kind of nonsense is that? I don't like NASCAR, but I don't think it is some leftist conspiracy.

At least you have to be a U.S. citizen to play U.S. soccer. How about baseball, again? What were you saying about 3rd worlders?

It is the great equalizer...therefore it is usually boring with almost everyone reduced to the same endless running around with very few (if any) excdptional moments. I know...the game within the gamne idea. Maybe I’m just not sophisticated enough such that I could appreciate the nuances.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

they come HERE to play, in the MAJORS. we are the land of the free after all.

Oh, the Olympics. I thought it was the World Cup.

I talked to relatives in Europe, and apparently the rest of the world is terrified of US soccer. I told them not to worry.

"lost to ...Canada"

Yeah, but that's only because the refs allowed the Canadians to keep highsticking. Also allowed the Canadians to slam our players into the boards. Totally unfair if you ask me.

Twenty-four astronauts have been on or near the Moon. Twelve of these landed on the Moon and actually walked on its surface.... all using mile, inch, quart, gallons. broken down into decimals, of course...the part that makes sense...rather than that '64th of an inch' thing....nothing wrong with the US system of measure....unless they combine the two systems...that caused a Mars probe to crash.
