The battle between one man and the city of Roswell that started over his keeping of chickens ended Monday afternoon in a fiery explosion. Investigators believe that rather than be evicted from his home, Andrew Wordes poured gasoline throughout the house and set it on fire.
"There was an initial explosion and subsequent fire," Lt. James McGee with Roswell police said during a news briefing.
A body was found inside the home, but a positive identification had not been made late Monday afternoon due to the condition of the body, Capt. Paul Piccirilli with the Roswell Fire Department said. The body was taken to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office for identification.

Chickenman was pushed to the point of killing the Roswell tyrants or himself. He was a member of Georgia Carry. He just wanted to be left alone.
But no....the city of Roswell wanted their park.Their “Greenspace”. And by God...they got it.
"He was a nutjob" doesn't qualify as a "fact." It's the braying opinion of a kneejerk keyboard jockey who lacks compassion, and apparently decency.
Oh well.
If I wasn’t born and raised near Roswell...If I wasn’t already long following his story...I’d prolly feel the same as you.
I suffer no one who takes themselves out. But he was pushed to the point of either killing the tyrants trying to take his personal property or himself. He chose differently than I would of...but I can understand.

ARTESIA, N.M.
This is a case where I wouldn’t have blamed the man if he’d taken his bomb to city hall and took some crooks hostage then light the fuse.
I also say if I was sure my neighbor poisoned my animals I’d be in jail for a lot more than violating a city ordinance.
so, self-immolation is, to you, a perfectly rational and sane response to the situation.
OK — to each his/her own, I suppose.
The definition of “Sane” has broader boarders than I previously thought. But if that fits in your comfort zone I won’t gainsay you.
>>No one is justifying self-immolation.<<
Yes you are. You are just pissed off I nailed you on your support of this as a “protest” from “the gummint.”
If this was a “cat lady” who had 96 cats and when the government moved in to help her (a ‘la Horders) she decided to torch herself and all said cats you would say “she was not all there.”
Methinks the EV and his ilk doth protest too much.
Actually, I said the exact opposite. Reading difficulties?
I think you’re the nutjob.
I wholeheartedly agree.
A lot of people are not getting what happened here.
Some are even making light of this, which I can’t believe.
What happened here was a man’s livelihood was stripped by a bunch of single-minded bureaucrats.
A man who was trying to live self-reliantly.
When the day comes that the government takes away everything of yours, and it WILL come, how badly might you feel?
What the hell happened to Freep?
Used to be people here would instinctively get issues like this.
I hope Mr. Wordes rests in peace.
I hope his story begins to be understood as it should: how far the government is willing to push any of us.
I think we have been invaded.
Recall recent (10 yr)conviction of the student for harassment and posting his roommates gay adventures on the internet?
This is a far worse crime, for they used the force of government harass and destroy a citizen.
He just had chickens, legally & properly & reasonably. Then the city tried to stop him, the city went berserk when he said “no”, and drove him to suicide. Did you read the detailed post above?
Quite.
Remember folks, this is what happens when you draw a line in the sand. All he wanted was some chickens - nothing weird, nothing different from what Americans have done for centuries, nothing illegal (until the bureaucrats decided to impose their will by all means necessary). He drew his line of freedom not far from where many FReepers would as well.
FWIW, I’m in Roswell.
