Article has new information released, including the reason for the school suspension.
More details at the source link.
A Zimmerman family friend recently called on police to release more info about the case to cool things down. We'll see if this helps.

Thanks for the link. I’ve reposted the link on my blog.
This seals it. He WAS defending himself. As his friend said, it was either Zimmerman or Martin. One would live, one would die. Never bring a fist to a gun fight.

He had been suspended from school in Miami after being found with an empty marijuana baggie. Interesting. Other reports indicated that he had assaulted a school bus driver.
Eventually, the truth will come out. A lot of what is being reported isn't worth spit.

But how could such a helpless, young, 6’2” football player have been such a threat to Zimmerman? /s
To: kristinn
I don't think the facts, whatever they may be, matter any more. This is now political. The DOJ will assure that Zimmerman is convicted of something. Witnesses and local officials will be gotten to and will either say the right things or be discredited and silenced. Lord Obama has spoken. That's not to say that Zimmerman didn't do something wrong. It simply doesn't matter.

Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot.

This troubles me. Sorry, it just does.

Wow! It looks like all of Black America owes George Zimmerman an APOLOGY!

From the article
A fringe group, the New Black Panthers, have offered a $10,000 reward for his capture.
Fringe group? How about hate group! And no mention that the poster said "Wanted dead or alive"...no bias here.

Zimmerman then shot Trayvon once in the chest from very close range, according to authorities. I've seen reported elsewhere it was a 9MM semi-auto pistol. Surprised the left hasn't equipped the gun with a 30 shot magazine and "deadly" JHP or XTP ammo. Anything for the cause you know..

Sun-sentinal is a lib paper. They try hard in the middle section to keep to the “innocent kid” meme (this is top middle of article, all set out by itself)
“Trayvon was an unarmed black teenager who had committed no crime, an innocent who was gunned down while walking back from a 7-Eleven with nothing more sinister than a package of Skittles and can of Arizona iced tea.”
but the fact that they do have a lot of info means that a lot of damning evidence is going to break loose in the next few days. It’s all done it’s purpose anyway - get blacks all riled up for the election.
They’ve done it with the women (Fluke) and now the blacks, watch a story come out that takes over all the news cycles about Hispanic immigrants. They’ve GOT to energize their radical base to keep Obama in.

Wow! This should cool the jets of the some freepers who think little Tray was an innocent victim of a 260-290 pound white man!
Did anyone see his friend Joe (I forget his last name) who appeared on the Today Show this morning? While Ann Curry furiously tried to get him to denounce Zimmerman, he defended him with class, style and intelligence.

Not doubting for a moment he received head injury and broken nose, but can someone suggest a reason why he would not go to a hospital for that? I’d be worried about possible hematoma, or passing out and winding up even more injured on the way home.

He had been suspended from school in Miami after being found with an empty marijuana baggie. Miami schools have a zero-tolerance policy for drug possession. LOL! It was empty, so there is apparently a less than zero policy for drug possession!

And just after I read another story that claimed he was suspended

I read one report over the weekend that said Zimmerman suffered a broken nose in the attack. If that is true, it would explain the screaming in the background. A broken nose hurts like hell. And to have an ongoing attack, he must have thought is today the day I die? This telling of what happened has the ring of truth to it. It is the kind of thing that has happened to all to many people for just looking at someone the wrong way and then ending with a beat down. There is a class of people ( and this has nothing to do with race.... for those inclined to scream) in this country that act like wild animals. Look at me wrong ( by my definition) and you are dead.

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.
Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police.
Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now" or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose.
Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.
Zimmerman began yelling for help.
Several witnesses heard those cries, and there's been a dispute about from whom they came: Zimmerman or Trayvon.
Lawyers for Trayvon's family say it was Trayvon, but police say their evidence indicates it was Zimmerman.
One witnesses, who has since talked to local television news reporters, told police he saw Zimmerman on the ground with Trayvon on top, pounding him and was unequivocal that it was Zimmerman who was crying for help.
Read the article folks, there is evidence and an eye witness.
