...Police Say
With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk several times, leaving him bloody and battered, authorities have revealed to the Orlando Sentinel.
That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say.
Zimmerman has not spoken publicly about what happened, but that night, Feb. 26, and in later meetings he described and re-enacted for police what he says happened.
In his version of events, he had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words then Trayvon punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him.
Zimmerman told police he shot the teenager in self-defense.

Police have been reluctant to provided details about all their evidence, but this is what they've disclosed to the Sentinel:
Zimmerman was on his way to the grocery store when he spotted Trayvon walking through his gated community.
Trayvon was visiting his father's fiancée, who lived there. He had been suspended from school in Miami after being found with an empty marijuana baggie. Miami schools have a zero-tolerance policy for drug possession.
Zimmerman called police and reported a suspicious person, describing Trayvon as black, acting strangely and perhaps on drugs.
Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot. When a dispatch employee asked Zimmerman if he was following the 17-year-old, Zimmerman said yes. The dispatcher told Zimmerman he did not need to do that.
There is about a one-minute gap during which police say they're not sure what happened.

It sounded exactly like “f’ing [said outright] coons.”. Sorry for the ugliness but that is what he said under his breath but clearly.
The Florida law does not require that you come to blows.
I heard it while watching a video clip. I don’t watch AC either. They named their audio expert so I was at least inclined to believe him, though who knows.
It only sounds like that to people who want it to sound that like. No wonder you’re a Santorum supporter.
Jack, if you saw any of my posts yesterday, you will see that I was pretty pro Zimmerman. It sure sounds like he shot in self defense. However, now that I have heard that under breath mutter that — to me — was clearly what they say it is, not goon, this will put Zimmerman behind bars. I know maybe Zimmerman didn’t accost the guy. But with that ugly racism in his mind before they were involved, a trial by jury would see racist intent.
And to a jury there is a difference between a guy saying something unkind to you and a guy racially insulting you. Anyone can be called an a-h and not hit back. But when you get insulted for your tribe, that can be seen by a lot of people as “asking for it.”. If you don’t belong to a tribe where that could hurt you, it would be similar to calling your child something ugly. It’s not the same as just calling an adult an a-h.
Now, as it stands, no one knows if Zimmerman said one thing to trayvon. But that muttering will not help his defense. His injuries do, though.

There is a difference, especially if this comes before a jury, between someone calling another person a random bad word - like a-h, and someone of another group calling you a racial epithet. They are likely to understand hitting someone who calls you a dirty racial epithet.
Mind you, not pummeling the person to death, just a punch or slug.
But as racially inflamed as this already is, this tape does NOT help Zimmerman. It may show he was heading toward trayvon with racial malice.
But again, where does it state he ever said something of malice TO Trayvon? He did not, therefore, the excuse of name calling angering Trayvon is void.
Second, zimmermans relationship with others including minorities have been reported in a positive light, not to mention he IS a minority.
It’s Beemer widely reported that going the hate crime route is weak....that should say something.

Nowhere and no one could ever prove it. I completely agree with you. But because he said that on the 911 tape, someone could assert that he was approaching him with racist ire.
I don’t know if there will be some kind of case here. Maybe someone would take it as a civil case just to keep the raciial flames fanned. It’s really sad.
I think you’re basing too much on someone that MIGHT have said a word that can (if it even was the word they tell us he said) offend. I say if that is all you’re basing his guilt on then you’re a fool. Sorry, but we all say things that can be taken as racist or foolish and that doesn’t make us guilty of anything. Have you never said a racist thing in your life or said something that could offend others?
I think you are being too thin skinned and if that is all Tryvon needed to attack Zimmerman then he was a thug that should have been shot.
Posts such as yours are offensive to me. They make you come off as a weak person that can so easily be offended by a word. So Coon offends you? I think you’re being silly.
To believe that Zimmerman is guilty for uttering an offensive word is an indication that you exercise poor judgement and I wouldn’t want you to sit on a jury for any case.
You obviously grew up in a very protected situation. I grew up in a mostly black neighborhood and I have heard worse and been called much worse.
You need to grow a thicker skin. I also feel it odd that you are on Free Republic being so offended by words that you would feel the utterance of such words imply racist guilt. Maybe your better off going to a more compassionate site like MoveOn.org or Huffington post. Heaven knows that the liberals are less racist than us conservatives.
Helloooo?? I never said Zimmerman was guilty of anything legally wrong.
I only said that the tape I heard definitely sounded like those foul words, and yes, I do believe anyone speaking them is a racist (other than quoting someone else, of course).
Yes those words are offensive. No, they do not mean Zimmerman is guilty of any wrong doing. All evidence so far is that he shot in self defense.
But in a trial those words may be used against him re motive.
My neighborhood is very mixed, more black than white. But this has nothing to do with me. I do think insulting the races of others is offensive. So do a lot of people who sit on juries. That’s all I said.
Let the authorities in Florida investigate the case and if Zimmerman pulled the trigger out of malice and hate then arrest him. If he used a weapon for self protection then Mr.Zimmerman should be set free.
If you think like a coward you will live the life of the coward.
As for myself and many others we draw a line in the sand and make our stand.
Z will be free...as free a man in a country that condones lying race pedaling media and racist “leaders”....
Zimmerman acted very foolish. He should not have got out of the car, and should have done what the dispatcher told him to.
He didn't. He acted very foolishly. That doesn't mean that his life was not in danger, but does mean he put himself in a stupid situation. He had called in that there was a strange man walking around acting suspicious, and had started following the man. He was advised not to get out of the car, and not make contact. He did so.
Was that wise? Would any lawyer or cop say “Good move!”? His life was turned upside, and the best he can hope for is that the civil rights charges that are coming are thrown out. He can't go home, and has a bounty on his head, for what? Being foolish is often a very costly thing.
None of your information is “Known” but rather supposed or injected out of ignorance.
If we do not defend our homes, friends, neighbors, mankind we remain ignorant spineless victims and are nothing more than sheep being led to slaughter.
I prefer men be bold, honest and hold others to the same standards otherwise we become spineless wimps, prey to every villain.
Cultivate the image of being a "Nigga" and pick fights openly -and- attack an individual who has NOT struck a blow against you, you are likely to (eventually) come up against someone who will shoot you.

Just happened that 'ol Trayvon won the 'lead lottery' a bit sooner than many others...
