hey look! Another article posted from the same source/subject so that Santorum bashers can get him some more.

Santorum gave an OPINION, which last I checked is a free speech thing. He’s not serving on the jury, neither is he a judge, State Attorney, or Attorney General. His OPINION will have 0, ZILCH, NADA, bearing on the outcome.

I guess Rick must have also been wrong to OPINE on the Jerry Sandusky investigation since that case is still pending as well.

Having a reasoned opinion requires information.

Santorum doesn’t have it.

Yet he still states it as if he does.

That’s simply foolish.

And what does the Bible say about bearing false witness against others?

You are attempting to defend the indefensible.

I said it on the other thread, the best thing Santorum supporters can do to help their candidate is to urge him to review the facts in evidence, and then take back his conclusion if it was reached based on incomplete or misleading information.

To just dig in and justify the remarks, without critical self examination when faced with criticism, is a sign of immaturity.

He's free to have an opinion, but it will reflect badly on him if/when his opinion is found to be ill-founded.

He is perfectly within his rights to join the lynch mob against Zimmerman. And we are perfectly within our rights to think less of him for doing that. I'm not a one issue guy, and I support Santorum because of his stands on various other issues. But this has me shaking my head. Romney was always my next to last choice (last choice being Paul) for the GOP nomination. Now that Romney's about to win the GOP nomination, I don't feel so bad about voting for him in the general, since Santorum is turning out to be a real so-and-so.

Innocent until proven guilty.

Rick played into the media hysteria and condemned the alleged shooter as guilty. The Sandusky reference is bizarre.

How many times will this article or some variation of it be posted? I imagine it will be posted more times because it makes the Santorum bashers feel good to have another go. I wonder how many bashers showed up on multiple threads to voice their indignation. Romney thanks them for their bashing because he is the only one they are helping at this point.

Rick gave his opinion. I disagree and think he should have simply called the loss of a life a tragedy, which it is regardless, and waited until all the facts came in in court. However, to make the deal that is being made of it here is ridiculous, and we know if it was Newt, there would be much fewer negative comments.

The search for previous The Daily Caller posts inserts a hidden date in front of the headline. I just noticed that. Therefore a search did not indicate it was previously posted because the search string would not have been the same.

However, I am unapologetic. I’m not a Rick basher as such. Every candidate has his problems, but this was a disaster, IMO, and deserves at least a second look. As stated, in my opinion - which I have a right to, as you say - the worst part of it wasn’t the content, which was bad enough, but the presentation, which was pathetic.

Plus, the volume of responses indicates that a lot of FReepers missed it first time around.

Yes, but his opinion says a lot about him. He's evidently willing to judge the case before the police have even completed the investigation. That's not wise.

A prominent politician should say some kind words for the victim's family, mention that he has trust in our legal system, and move on to something else. This showed poor judgement and citing the First Amendment doesn't change that.

Yep. And based on his opinion, we’re glad we didn’t for that person.

If he offered an opinion of guilt or innocence about Sandusky, especially being from Pennsylvania, then yes he was wrong. Santorum is a public political figure and his statement can be expected to have an effect on the public, who may well be on the jury. Put it this way: if Zimmerman was on trial right now, Santorum just handed his attorney grounds for mistrial.

This has everything to do with ethics and judgment, nothing to do with your ignorant notions of "free speech." This is not merely a stupid statement--this reflects impaired judgment and /or defective impulse control--just what we want in the White House.
