When To Start Watching: Polls will close for the Louisiana Republican primary at 8 p.m. CDT (9 p.m. EDT). Results will begin to come in around 8:30 p.m. CDT.

What's At Stake: Twenty of the state's 46 delegates are up for grabs Saturday, divided proportionately among all candidates who receive more than 25 percent of the vote in the state. Louisiana hosts a closed primary, meaning only registered Republicans may vote for the four candidates in the GOP contest.

I know, you can say it over and over until you are blue in the face, but Two-State Newt is still desperately looking for that third state. I bet he is eyeing NC, AR, TX, or CA. He seems to think that SC and GA are the only states.

That’s true, Green Papers has nothing saying this state switches to WTA at 50%. These 20 delegates are strictly proportional for any candidate getting over 25% of the vote. Unfortunately Romney hit that threshold by a narrow margin. And any other candidate dropping out wouldn’t have stopped him from doing so.

The Papers say 18 more delegates are chosen later, 3 from each district. Supposedly the party can choose if those are tied to the results of the voting or not.

8 other delegates appear to simply be appointed by the party elites and are not bound to any candidate.

Huckabee won LA in 2008 but got NO delegates at all. The system is rigged toward Romney.

If Newt wanted to help, he would suspend his campaign without releasing his delegates. Then work on the RNC Rules Committee for getting FL/AZ properly seated in according with rule 16B

Also, although it looks too late for TX, would be nice to re-write the rules to make it WTA. In fact, work on the 2012 platform and with the Southern State Legislatures to ensure that every Southern/Midwest State (ND, SD, KS, NE, OK, TX,MS, LA, AL, GA, SC, TN, KY, and WV) is WTA. This would prevent a moderate in the future from having an advantage in the Moderate/liberal states.

Saturday 24 March 2012: 20 of Louisiana's 46 delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders in today's Louisiana Presidential Primary. [Caucus and Convention Rules, Adopted May 21, 2011, Rule No. 19. (d) and 20. (b)]

• 20 National Convention Delegates are allocated proportionally to those Presidential candidates receiving 25% or more of the statewide primary vote. Fractional delegates are rounded to the nearest whole number (rounding rules to handle too many or too few delegates are unknown).
• If no candidate receives 25% of the vote, the 20 delegates will attend the Republican National Convention officially unpledged to any candidate. These delegates will be elected at the State Convention where the participants at the State Convention will alone determine if presidential preference is to be a factor in such choice and, if so, how it is to be applied.

When McCain clinched the nomination in March, LA hadn’t met to assign their delegates based on the results. Huckabee dropped out of the race after McCain won OH and TX and clinched the nomination, which released his earned delegates to support the nominee.

Sounds like they changed their rules last year. These 20 are supposed to be allocated proportionally to the candidates over 25%. The remaining 26 seem to follow the old method and can either be told to support whoever the party wants or choose for themselves.

Aint that some crap. Romney gets a 42-12 delegate split in IL for a 47-35% result over Santorum. Santorum wins by nearly double in LA, and yet Romney gets nearly 7 delegates for just barely crossing the 25% threshhold?

WTF? This system needs to be changed.
