Beethovens Les Adieux Sonata is one of his rare programmatic pieces. In the first movement, the married couple parts. The second movement is about the absence. In the finale, they reunite in a frantic manner. He uses the piano to show two people frantically embracing each other and practically clawing at each other. At 1:05 he portrays them holding each other, rocking back and forth, putting the right hand notes on the off-beats.
At 3:20 he uses the rocking figures as the main part of his development section.
At the end, he makes it sound as if he going to discreetly close the doors of the bedroom as he slows the piece down. But in a delightful surprise, he portrays the happy couple tumbling into bed.
Beethoven: Piano Sonata in E-flat, Op. 81a, Les Adieux, finale
