WASHINGTON -- Jim DeMint, among the nation's conservative leaders, stopped just short Thursday of endorsing Mitt Romney for president as the South Carolina senator called on the former Massachusetts governor's foes to re-evaluate their campaigns. DeMint's appeal for Republicans to focus on defeating President Barack Obama came a day after former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, another influential conservative, endorsed Romney and urged party unity. "What I can tell conservatives from my perspective is that I'm not only comfortable with Romney, I'm excited about the possibility of him possibly becoming our nominee," DeMint told reporters on Capitol Hill. At a time when a Romney staffer's "Etch A Sketch" gaffe is once again raising questions about Romney's conservative bona fides among the most stalwart Republicans, DeMint's vote of confidence could help the candidate solidify support among the party's base. "His leadership skills, the fact that he hasn't lived his life in Washington - there's a lot to like there," DeMint said. DeMint said he had no "immediate plans to do an endorsement," but without naming them, he urged former Sen. Rick Santorum, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Rep. Ron Paul to re-evaluate their campaigns. "I think we all need to look at this presidential primary and encourage the candidates to do a little self-reflection here - what's good for the country," DeMint said. "The sooner we can make a decision, I think the sooner we can focus on the real problem, which is Obama," he said. DeMint made it clear that he views a possible brokered presidential convention this summer as harmful for Republicans' chances of making Obama a one-term president.

There should be no surprise here...DeMint was in bed with Romney in 2007. A number of us pointed that inconvenient fact out on the old “DeMint for Prez” threads in 2009 but got shouted down.
Rino’s humping Rino’s.
“It’s already been predicted as much as 10% of the republican base will stay home or vote 3rd party should Romney become the nominee.”
According to Gallup, the percentage is 18%, not 10%.
Amen Brother.
Count me in the 60%
I see no difference between Mitt Romney and the dipstick we have now.
Romney will not fight to get rid of Obamacare, That right there makes him unelectable in my book.
I will definitely be united behind Romney with all other conservatives who refuse to vote for a Republican-labeled socialized-medicine total-controlling Republican socialist. If we have to have a socialist president then let him carry the socialist/Democrat label.
Next for GOP leaders: Stopping Sarah Palin
The GOP-E made its bed, now it's going to have to lay in it.
DeMint was Romney’s National campaign co-chair in 2008.
I think we know who has been promised the VP slot here.....
“Can’t the unwashed masses see that 35% -40% of the GOP really really really wants Romney and just have the other 60% give up trying to vote for someone else?”
Maybe it’s the right time that the 60% present their own candidate as independent, and work to create a new Republican Conservative Party and take the House and Senate by storm in 2014.
RINO GOP is dead. Let’s start by wiping their incumbents next November.
“Rinos humping Rinos.”

Set down the name, the one Jim DeMint..
Feeney, have you written the name I gave you?
Well, strike a line through it.
Thats for him. Jim Quisling DeMint.
I used to always pass this quote around to people, when they were being tempted to do the expedient thing, and go with the crowd politically... the lesser of two evil crowds, I'd guess you call them. It was one of the things that made me stand tall for Newt through all the slings and arrows, especially of family and friends.
"I was there when we had the numbers, and not the principles, and was there when we had the principles and not the numbers."
~ Jim DeMint, on the Mark Levin program, 09.14.10, on why he opposed Mike Castle, DE Rino.
*******
Looks like Demint is a numbers guy now. Kiss my ass, DeMint.
Mitt Romney supports homo activists in their war against the Boy Scouts.
Starting during the Clinton Administration (does the name Roberta Achtenberg ring a bell?) the Boy Scouts came under relentless fire by the Democrats and their newsrooms for rejecting the idea that they, the Boy Scouts of America, should welcome homosexual scout leaders into the organization and let them take little boys off into the woods. Boy Scouts leaders didn’t think this was such a good idea. Naturally, Massachusetts Mittens sided with the homo activists.
Below are a couple of columns from 10 and 12 years ago about the Boy Scouts being turned away by Mitt Romney and the Olympics Committee for volunteer work on the Salt Lake Olympics. The Boy Scouts had been very active and high profile at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and were looking forward to participating once again. But the Boy Scouts had just won an important Supreme Court case (in June 2000 the Supreme Court ruled that the BSA was a private organization that could choose whoever they wanted as scout leaders and could therefore reject sodomites) and the Democrats/homos were still mighty ticked off about it. Massachusetts Mittens could always be counted on to pander to homo activists, of course, so he gladly came up with a lame lie of an excuse for turning the Boy Scouts away from the Salt Lake Olympics. The Boy Scouts’ disappointment was palpable, and Mitt Romney never returned their calls.

Someone needs to check the DeMint coffers for Romney $$$$
What a POS. I will never vote for Romney. I would rather lose than let this turd win and further tarnish conservatism and the GOP. With Zero at least there’s a chance the Hous and Senate will find a spine. With Romney, he will continue with Zero’s play book, except with the blessings of the spineless GOP.
WaPo has an article pushing Santo to get out now, people suggesting GOP needs to settle on a candidate now, and Rick hurts his own future prospects if he doesn’t get out soon. Linked to it from Drudge. Would be interesting if Santo bought into that argument and dropped out, then we could see what would happen the rest of the way should Gingrich hold steady.
I’ve done my share of bragging about Jim DeMint over the months. So this is disappointing.
For me, Newt and Santorum should keep double-teaming Romney all the way into Tampa. If Romney is the best we can do, its time for a new party. The GOP grandees obviously don’t want us in their little party any more.
For me, anyone supporting Romney against a conservative needs to be flushed out of office at the earliest opportunity. There are a lot of RINOs who are worse than DeMint, by far, but he has just lined up with the wrong team.
Seems like Mitt has promised the VP slot to more than one individual...McDonnell of Virginia, one of the Pauls, perhaps Rubio, and now DeMint.
Same establishment talking points, different mouthpiece. Who do they think they’re fooling? Anyone smarter than a turnip knows that everything their shysters say is bought and paid for.
2012 has become the year of vetting the Republican party. How many among them will stand with Willard Romney the open socialist?
Well said, and exactly correct. As long as genuine conservatives continue to reward the establishment scum with their votes, they will continue to get worthless, moderate/liberal candidates foisted on them.
Count me out. I can't do it anymore.
“His leadership skills, the fact that he hasn’t lived his life in Washington - there’s a lot to like there,”
Jim...what do you like there?
His support of gun control?, support for Planned Parenthood, socialized medicine, support of global warming and cap and trade, nomination of Democrats and liberal judges, his nasty class warfare rhetoric, the fact that his tax plan defines the rich at $200k vs. $250k in Zeros plan, his support of bailouts, his liberal tendencies? What do you like the most?
Do you like it that your colleagues in the House shut down the Fast & Furious investigations. Maybe when you and your Senate buddys completely folded on the debt ceiling negotiations. If you like that, you’ll really like Romney’s go along to get along principless leadership.
What do you really like there? Please let us know.
That’s a rhetorical question you phony empty suit. You’ve blown your credibility. I hope the Romney $$$ and political favors are worth your integrity.
